Just this past month I've had a breakout of what looks like a cluster of skin tags around my anus. I just went to see my OB/GYN today and he took a snip off one of them to have it tested. He says it's probably HPV but is having this tested to be sure. I'm going in a couple of days to see a colorectal surgeon to see about having them removed. They seem to be spreading. But I thought HPV looks more like cauliflower clusters...? Do they also tend to look like skin tags? This is really freaking me out because I have had a couple of sex partners in the past year, so I'm not sure who it could have been...
So anyway.. does HPV also tend to resemble skin tags?

HPV is a weird virus. The warts do tend to look more like cauliflowers. ...I have weird skin tags on my vaginal area and always worry that it is HPV but they haven't changed and doctors always say it isn't anything.

Honestly all you can do is wait and see.  But if it is HPV, I'm gonna tell you something: it's actually not a big deal.  As long as the warts are treated and you make sure your immune system and health is good, eat well, take vitamins and don't smoke (that can increase your chances of outbreaks) you can get rid of them and never have another occurrence.  HPV is common in a lot of people, because it is spread by skin as you probably know, you may have had it already and not known but the thing is our bodies can clear the infection usually.  HPV warts are rare I think, but you could very well have these.  A friend of mine had them a couple years ago and he got them taken care of and now he is fine.  I have read on here that eventually if you do not have a reoccurrence that after a while the virus is dormant or cleared and you will not be contagious.

This is the kind of virus that you can't figure out where you got it from and most people don't know when they don't have it.

As freaked out as you may be by the warts, they are not dangerous.  You have to thnk of it as something that a lot of people can get and just take care of yourself the best you can. eventually you will get it cleared up, if you even have it, and then you will be fine.

They always differ in appearance. They may be small or big, fleshy growths, tiny bumps or skin changes which may appear anywhere in or on the genital or anal area. If you also have itching or burning that is a symptom of genital warts.

Good luck :)
