what about those women that have had hysterectomys.how will hpv effect them ?
No, I've never heard of anything about estrogen or testosterone being linked to cancer. And it's not that there is no test for HPV in men... it just usually takes the form of a biopsy of a genital wart. I also understand that there are some tests that are able to brush the penis and genitals and test that for the high-risk strains. With that said, the reason that it's not commonly done is because the health risks of HPV to men is virtually zero. For those of us who have dealt with genital warts, we might have something to say about that... the psychological strain of knowing one has an active HPV infection is pretty terrible as well. But, for better or for worse, they typically only regularly test women because women are the ones who bear the brunt of the virus in the form of increased risk for cancer. Men just simply do not face that risk.
I was just wondering if it had anything to do with hormones? like it was more prone to estrogen? it just doesn't make sense why there is no fda approved test for men to get tested. Have you heard of anything about men with low testosterone levels as being more prone to cancer?
I'm not sure of the science behind it, but HPV infection can, in some cases, lead to cervical cancer among women from causing abnormal cell growth in the cervix. Being that men don't have cervixes, it doesn't really work that way for men :).
As far as the strains of HPV that can actually cause health issues beyond superficial inconveniences (i.e. genital warts), men are typically just carriers of the virus and never experience the serious health problems that women are capable of experiencing by the simple fact that they are female.
