How do males check for HPV

I had a partner who was infected with HPV 18 yrs ago.  I soon after developed reoccuring genital warts and have had them ever since.  Is there a way to check if I have the HPV strain?

Thanks,

I'm also skeptical that you are getting recurring warts for 18 years. Are you sure that what arises after you treat the wart isn't atrophic skin (when you injure your skin, sometimes it comes back a bit raised, like a scar).

In any event, I'd be very skeptical that you have recurring warts for that long without being seen by a doctor about it. It could very well be another condition- many mimic HPV pretty closely.

I have had the exact same experience for 20 years.  Same spot, never gets any better or worse.  Have you tried Wartamine? It clears mine in 3 days but they always come back.

Thank you. It is a hard thing to go see your doctor about.  I'll make sure that they biopsy.  Thanks again for your reply.

Ruggers1, you need to get a biopsy every time you get a new suspected wart. Doctor and even dermatologist often misdiagnose some small bumps to warts and vice versa. What you can do is to force them to get a biopsy on your suspected wart so you will know what it really is...If it's true that all this time you have had warts (and not some enlarged glans or other normal stuffs), i would highly recommend you to get your antibody checked so you know if you have deficiency in your immune system because reccurring wart problems for 18 years seem too much to me.

Worst case is, I know several people are unlucky and several people simply can't clear up their HPV infection. If you are one of these "several", probably what you want to do is to tell your long term girlfriend (when you have one) and tell her to get vaccinated. It's sucks to disclose our HPV condition and we might lose our girlfriend, indeed, but then it's the best advise i can give you. HPV vaccine should be able to protect your future sex partner from your condition.

Would a dermatologist be the correct specialist to go see in this case?

LightningF:

I apologize for the late reply as well.

Over the years, I have used Compound W the liquid,  Compound W Freeze Off Wart removal system, Dr. Scholl's - Freeze away and had a couple different doctors (medicenter) put a liquid on it (not sure what).  I'm currently using 'Forces of Nature' Wart control - extreme strength.

What other disease could it possibly be?

Thanks,

Sorry for the late reply, I have not seen a specialist.

The wart usually comes back in a 1-2 month span.

thanks,

@Ruggers1: can you tell us what's the remedies that you use? The brand please?

i would say that you are very unlucky that you keep getting recurrences in 18 years. You are probably one of the very few percent who keep getting recurrences from HPV (most people clear up HPV within 24 months)

The reason why i ask you the remedy that you use is because i would like to know if what you have is actually another disease instead of HPV

Its really unlikely to have HPV warts for over 18 years. Have you seen a specialist such as a dermatologist?

How long does it take for the warts to come back after you take care of them?

Hello,

I'm not currently with this partner anymore - it was a teenage fling.  She told me after we broke up that she was told that she had HPV from her doctor and my wart developed shortly afterwards - I have had it ever since and still have it.  It is reoccuring and always in the same spot.  I have been to medi clinics and used off the counter remedies but the wart always seems to come back.

Could my reoccuring wart be HPV? And what is the chance that I have had HPV for over 18 yrs?  What are the chances that I pass this on to my children?

thanks,

Hello,

There is no HPV test in men besides a visual diagnosis from an experienced specialist such as a dermatologist, or by getting a biopsy of what appears to be a wart to know for sure.

You said your partner had HPV 18 years ago?? Does he/she still have genital warts? It usually takes 8-24 months for a person to clear it. How soon afterwards did you develop genital warts and how long have you had them?
