I am 31 years old, no kids. I have HPV 16/18. I have had persistent abnormal paps for just over 2 years. I usually bounce back and forth between ASCUS and LSIL changes on my cervix. Every time I have a colposcopy my cervix comes up "clean". I never get any biopsies done, since my GYN never sees any lesions. I had a colposcopy in April 2016 and my my doctor also performed a Endocervical curettage which came up positive. She originally wanted to do a LEEP surgery but decided to "watch and wait" since I have not had children yet and she was concerned about compromising my cervix. I had another pap smear in August 2016 and it was abnormal (LSIL changes). GYN performed another colposcopy (she couldn't see abnormal cells) and another Endocervical curettage. She told me to come back in 3 weeks for results. If positive again she wants to do a same day cryosurgery. She explained how it works and I am not nervous about it.
This is my question: If she cannot see any abnormal cells, what is she going to remove? And if the cell changes are in the cervical canal how can a cryosurgery be effective? I want to take care of this but I am confused.
Any answers would be so helpful!
