Please help..thank you

Any info would be so appreciated.  I was diagnosed with HPV 11 years ago, after the birth of my daughter.  High Risk, I had precancerous cells on my cervix.  After 2 leep procedures that DID NOT work, we all decided on a hysterectomy.  That was in 2005, my vaginal paps have been good, until recently, they found low risk HPV on my vagina.  I have to go for a colposcopy.  I am a little nervous because I'm not sure if this means that now I have cancer cells on my vagina? Does it mean they found a wart(s)? Not sure what the difference is between the high risk I had and the low risk I have? Any info PLEASE! Thank you.

I see, ok...see I didn't know that.  I wish 5 years ago when they gave me the hysterectomy they would have told me that I will probably get some abnormal change in cells or something, I was lead to believe that poof, it's all taken out.....and that really pisses me off, had I known that, when my pap came back I wouldn't have thought I had vaginal cancer.

This forum is a Godsend, and I wish I would have found it sooner!

I have been doing alot of reading on this in the past few weeks as I have just been dagnosed with VIN (vulval intra-epithelial neoplasia) mine is stage 1 and 2 on my vulva not in my vagina like yours is.  I have read that after you have it in your cervix and get it removed its common to get it else where.  It sounds like you have VAIN stage 1 (in the vagina) I go on Thurs to find out what my treatment options are, as far as I know its shots or cream that should force my body to fight off the abnormal cells.

Low grade cell changes are extremely common and I believe that you should not feel overly concerned about that. This is not to undervalue, so to speak, your concerns, but to help mininmize your anxiety as we have to level out our concerns according to our expectations. Our expectations should be based on facts. The facts show that, on the great majority, such low grade infections tend to clear out by themselves or simply never get worse. Of course this is not a rule but a basis on which our expectations should built. That is life, nothing is certain, we don't even have a guarantee that we will arrive safely anywhere, be it crossing a road, driving a car, taking a train or flying on a plane. Life is full of risks and nothing is certain to happen or not happen. But we do tend to base our expectations on life's facts and experiences. So balance out your fears on observation. Yes, pray and believe in your prayers. I will pray for you too. Take care.

what the doctor said  was the biopsy results showed a low-grade change in cells, and that's it..I have to go back in 6 months for another vaginal pap.  They did say something about if it doesn't go away there are treatments, like creams and such...but that it may also clear up on it's own...so I guess I just wait the 6 months...and PRAY!

In your first posting you mentioned "low risk HPV on my vagina" if that is still the case and not proven otherwise, then I believe that no serious problems should emanate from this result. In any case, I'm sure they will adopt a more cautious wait and see approach as it may clear on its own. But I remember reading a post by Dr Elaine Brown, MD (here on medhelp) that says that it is normal to get such test results on the vagina after a hysterectomy. It is also evident that very rarely do such tests get worse even with high risk types. Take care.

Yes that sounds very normal. Low grade changes go away on there own most of the time, therefore treatment is not necesary. The will monitor you and if the HPV is still there in 6 months then they will give you some treatment.

Well I did get a call back today regarding my biopsy, my doctor is on vacation so his associate read the results, they told me it shows a low grade change in my cells, that they will keep an eye on, and that I need to get re-papped in 6 months.  Does this sound normal ...?

They said because of my HPV they need to watch me and that it might clear up on it's own....I'm still just very scared.

Thanks again for all the help.

Yes, he did tell me about the "robust" vagina..LOL....and how it's very rare...I personally have a feeling it might be pre-cancerous cells, that he is keeping a watch on...he said it was sequamus (sp) and that the original pap came back as a typical cell ... the colposcopy showed the sequamus' I saw them....so he biopsied, and told me to call in a week....thanks for all the support, ya still can't help but feel nervous, ya know...I'm trying to go by what he said... he looked into my  eyes and said "IT'S NOT CANCER" so...I'm going with tthat.

I will post when I get the results.

Based on what I have read both here on Medhelp as well as elsewhere, it is rather common to get an abnormal vaginal pap test after hysterectomy. However, vaginal cancer is much rarer than cervical cancer. The vaginal wall is more "robust", so to speak, and very rarely does it evolve to full cancer. However, your doctor is doing the right thing in keeping a watchful eye on your cell changes. So there is no need to panic or be anxious about your tests. Good luck and may God be with you.

I do not have a cervix.  I had High Risk when first diagnosed and they removed everything.

What showed was on the walls of my vagina.  I went today they did do a colposcopy, the doctor assured me that it is NOT cancer, a lot more would have shown in my original pap results also, when he did the colpscopy he was certain it was not cancer, once he got a better look, it could be scar tissue from my hysterectomy or pre-cancerous cells...he did biopsy and I will know Thursday the results.

Thank you

no low risk are not warts.... when you get HPV its either the cancer strand or the wart strand, of they want to do a colopskpy then they are checking to see if the cancer cells have develpoed even more, they will place some vinegar on your cervix and the cancer cells will turn white, then they will cut a piece off and send to the lab to see if cancerous

most womens body clears the infection in 6-24 months, just keep up with the check up paps and everything should be ok

did you get a complete hysterectomy?... cause if you dont have a cervix then they wont be able to do the colposkpy

I will let you know how it goes, and thank you for your help.  I am still concerned (because none the less I have abnormal cells) but less concerned then a few days ago I guess.

You are big help!

Oh okay. That makes more sense because the procedures you describe aren't used for warts (low risk) but for high risk HPV so I was a little confused as to if the doctor meant that you had low risk or low grade. So you have low grade.

It is very common and very rarely develops into anything serious. The nurse was right in saying they would normally just ask to monitor your progress but seeing as you have a history they are doing procedures straight away.

I understand your worry - there is so much confusion surrounding HPV but it is not a death sentence, I assure you. You just need to keep on top of things - keep healthy, get your immune system up to scratch and follow doctors orders. Low grade cell changes are very minor and manageable, stress will only make the whole thing worse. Even if you had high risk changes, it is still manageable! So, sit back, relax and let the doctors do there thing. You are in safe hands

ok I just called my doctors office to be clear....once again...what the nurse said is this...I have "abnormal cells" that they just want to take a closer look at because of my HPV history...if I didn't have the hpv history, they would just tell me to come back in a year....I asked her if in any way is this cancer, and she said no....

So I go for the colposcopy thursday...in your honest opinion, what do you think about all this....?? thank you again.

Amie, I thought by no one answering me, it was bad news.....so thank you so much for answering me.  I am just so nervous, I expected an answer the second after the posting..LOL....

They said "we found Low Risk HPV and you need to come in for a colposcopy and a biopsy" I go this Thursday.

So from what you are saying low risk, are the warts....low grade are minor cell changes...neither are a death sentence??!?!?!?! Cause I'm so so scared.

Thank you

Was it low grade or low risk?

Low risk are warts and do not cause cancer. Low grade are cell changes that are very minor.
