Question on warts and how they spread

Hi,

I have a couple questions I'm hoping someone can shed a little light on for me.

Quick background on my exposure. I received unprotected oral sex from someone of unknown status about 4 months ago.

1) I am concerned that I may have 3 warts on my penis, right along where the foreskin (circumsized) and my penis shaft meet.  They may have been there all along, but I don't think so.  One of them is flat, with a rough textured top and less than 1/8" in diameter.  Then, the other two are about a 1/2" away and it is very small in diameter, but protruding out further. I guess like a extremely mild version of those "finger" like genital warts you see pics of on the net.

I have seen an STD doc, and she said she thinks they're just normal for my skin. She did seem to take great care in looking (i.e. not a knee jerk reaction to get me out the door). She said keep an eye on them to see if they change ... this was last week, and I think the one may have changed but I do tend to look at them somewhat frequently as I'm a bit freaked out.

This AM, I took Q-tip with some 5% white vinegar and applied it to the  potential warts. I made sure to somewhat rub it in, rather than just lightly brushing it on (although, I was still pretty gentle).  The first bigger one I mentioned remained unchanged, as did one of the smaller ones.  But the one that is more "finger like" seems to have lightened up somewhat -- well, the very tip of it has, the "body" remained unchanged.  Of course, I was quite concerned of this ... Fast forward 2 hours, I checked while I was at work and that whole "wart" (hope not) is red, and is slightly stinging (noticed stinging on the ride in).   Does this sound like common reaction to warts and vinegar?

Should a Dr. at an STD clinic be able to tell if something is a wart just by looking, or is misdiagnosis common?  Should I request a referral to a dermatologist?

2)  My second question is about how warts spread. The reason I ask this, is that I have noticed lately that (sorry for the details) my butt has been itchy.  I have taken the best look I can, and don't see anything raised around my anus or in between my cheeks but, at the very top where my butt cheeks come together it is red. This may be from me itching it, but it's not something I do all the time as I can put up with it for a few seconds until the need to itch goes away. I do probably itch it (lightly) 3-4 times a day.     I guess my question is, if my exposure to warts was unprotected oral sex directly to the penis alone (not contact between her tongue and my testicles, taint or anus) could I develop warts in or around my anus?  I definitely haven't touched my penis (or potential warts) with my hand and then immediately touched my anus so I am thinking this isn't possible.  Given HPV is spread by direct skin to skin contact ... and even if I wanted to, I'm not exactly equipped to  have the head of my penis touch my anus for the sake of spreading them on my own  ;-).

Your answers/opinions are GREATLY appreciated ...

Hi there,
Firstly, you have to remember there are many normal bumps and lumps on our bodies that are nothing of concern even if they werent there before or is diffeent to sumone elses, everyones different. Std clinics look at this sort of thing everyday, all day, I think theyll recognise an STD if they see one, there are occassions where ppl are misdiagnosed, but this isnt often!

The viniger test is not accurate, as it tends to highlight ANY bump or lump, that being normal and abnormal, so this doesnt mean anything! As for the stinging...well youv just put VINIGER on your dick my friend, yes its going to burn!

I highly doubt you got warts from oral sex, especially if it was a once off occasion, this is very rare. In the event that you do have warts from a past sexual experience, they can migrate...meaning they can spread to your anus etc. But dont freak out now, this does not mean they can spread everywhere or internally, they are usually found on the penis, scrotum and anus in men and occassionally in the pubic area. With anal warts this bdoesnt mean any anal sex has happened its just where the warts have chosen to present themselves.

If I where you I would get a second opinion, maybe go to a dermatologist, if it isnt warts maybe they can tell you what it is and treat it correctly if its bothering you so much.
Good luck and take care.
