Transmission of HPV through Open Fingernail?

I've been following Dr Edward Hook's replies to posting regarding transmission of HPV through open cuticle or hangnail underneath fingernails (since July 16, 2010 when a posting was made by 'dohdohdoh'). Followup question: Can I get HPV transmitted through underneath the finger nail? Background: I was fingering a woman known to have HPV. We were careful. No intercourse. No touching genitals. But I gave her two of my fingers in her vagina to please her. My index finger, I later noticed, I had cut my finger nail perhaps too short, producing an 'open' area under the nail that would sting when I washed my hands. No blood. Is there a risk for HPV transmission via this finger scenario?

The risk exists but it is extremely low. Look, if you've been sexually active (safe or unsafe sex) with anyone in your life, you have a 85% chance of being exposed. Unless you are planning to be celibate forever, you cannot avoid this virus. Your fingering is a low risk for catching this STD, IMO. Just because a woman has HPV does not mean she is infectious at that time.
