HPV - How and How Long Ago?

I have been battling non HIV autoimmune issues for years.  Biopsies have recently revealed HPV and as I've been married for more than 26 years (no other partners--and I trust my husband), I'm at a loss to know how I got HPV or when.  Can HPV be dormant for 26 years -- or could the many medical procedures I've had to the vulvar area presented a possible cross-transfer?  My pap smears have been normal.

I've only had a "wart" biopsy.  I have to make appointments with my gyno.
I thank you for your input.  I am 57 and in total shock over the havoc going on with my body.  Scleroderma Morphea, Lichen Sclerosis, Sarcoidosis, Thrombocytopenia, one after another.  I feel like screaming, "What else are you going to throw at me???"

To date, not specialist (and I've seend A LOT) can tell me why I have all these problems.  I'm like a poster child for little know diseases and now this.  If it keeps up, I'm claiming alien abduction!

I'll post the gyno's findings as things progress -- and again, I thank you.  You are a little blessing for me.

then if no other sexual contacts ur situation supports the dormancy theory!r they sure its HPV?there r certain dysplasias than can be caused by things other than HPV.Ur problems with ur immune system certainly could xplain a suppression of the virus.my very good friend has been celibate for 12 years.she was notified she has dysplasia and is scheduled for a colposcopy soon.if she has HPV i will believe in the dormancy theory!u have a unique situation..is most likely not the norm for most gynos/docs today diagnosing HPV.Have u had colposcopy yet?

My  husband had prostate surgery several years ago (complete removal) so while he can function sexually, he does not ejaculate.  I have not had other relationships.  So I'm at a loss...

HPV doesn't transfer to a vulvar area.....it is a sexually transmitted virus.I personally don't believe HPV lies dormant for years using myself as xample. Was celibate for 10 years yearly paps no problems.Got in2 a relationship and one year after it ended i had high risk HPV.Dr.Hook in the Experts forum stated that the liklihood of this lying dormant for years was unlikely due 2 my vigilance with the paps.He stated most likely i was x-posed to a new strain of HPV.If u believe ur husband than u will most likely go with it lying dormant.Would be interesting to see what Drs.Hook and Handsfield say-u could re-post this in the Experts Forum-std's for a $15 fee.
