I keep reading information on genital warts. It says that 1-5% of the population has it. But then Guardasil protects the 4 "most common strains", including the two that "1-5%" get. However, on medhelp, I found out that 10% of sexually active people may get the genital warts strain by age 40. I know that the high/intermediate risk strains are very much out there and that the majority of people will get that. So, does that make the genital warts strain seem like a different type of disease then the high risk ones even though they are from the same family? Do you think a lot of people really are infected with the low risk strains sometime in their life, especially when single and dating in their 20-30s?
The doctors on here recommend Guardasil for young and less sexually experienced people and mentioned that if you're older, chances are that you have already been infected with the strains in Guardasil. I'm assuming that would include the low risk strains. On the other hand, brochures on HPV mention that only 5% of people with HPV get genital warts. So, I was wondering if I was very unlucky to get this or is it more prevalent than we think?
