HPV 16 and Oral CA

Hi Doc,

I was recently diagnosed with HPV 16 that has caused CIN2 cells. I dont know when i was infected as i havent had a pap for the past 5 years. I was pregnant in 2009/2010 but lost baby due to eclampsia. I went for the lletz procedure yesterday.

Anyway My concern now is I obviously don't know when I was infected so does this increase my husbands risk of oral CA from oral sex of me due to me being HPV16 positive?

Thank you

Oral cancer from giving you oral sex is a very low risk.  Your question was about past oral sex provided to you by your husband. He should be checked (like everyone else is) by his dentist for any growths. Oral sex should be avoided while you are in recovery mode and then can be done again after your test is negative. No one can say if he was infected while you had this or not or whether the chances are greater. If he smokes cigs or drinks alcohol, his chances increase.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Most people with HPV do not have serious symptoms and body`s immunity resolves the infection itself without any medication. Usually HPV causes warts in pelvic area and genitals. Sometimes it can cause throat infection known as recurrent respiratory pappilomatosis or RRP. It can also cause cervical, anal, vulval, oral cancers. Hence your husband should avoid oral sex.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
