abnormal pap plus hpv positive

My last pap came up abnornal plus I got a positive result for HPV. The report says it is the high-risk type of HPV. I've been in a monogamus relationship for 5 years and my paps from the few past years came up all normal. I just want to know if it is possible that I got HPV from my previous partner  (that is 6 years ago or more) or if it is my current partner who gave me the virus. I'm having a colposcopy and probably a biopsy in a few days and my doctor said will see what to do from there.
thanks for your help.

Thank you very much for your answers. Having so many questions and doubts about how did I get HPV poses a lot of additional stress to the whole situation. Thanks very much for the advice. Really appreciate it!

This is a pasted copy of what I had answered for another person...hope this helps your worries

I have been going through some bad perimenopause symptoms which forced me to see a gynecologist. I found out I had HPV but I have been married for almost 27 yrs! Call me ignorant but I never cheated on my husband & there are no signs of him ever cheating on me. I have never had an abnormal pap smear in my life until now. The doctor told me I, or my husband could have gotten HPV the very first time either one of us had sex. Yes, you CAN have it for many many years & have no signs of it what so ever. You can also get it, not be a smoker & your body will make it disappear within 2 years...however I smoke. I am 47 yrs old & still have no cancer & have never had any warts what so ever.

It's definitely possible that you got HPV from a previous partner or even from your current (not because they cheated) because HPV can lay dormant for decades before making itself known (weakened immune sytem)...you'll NEVER know where or who you got it from...know that HPv is VERY COMMON ..about 80% or more of sexally active ppl have it..usually clears itself on it's own..you should be taking a multi w/ folica cid (800mg per day), green tea, exercise, no smoking/drinking..if your partner smokes..they should stop or use condoms..toxins accelerate the virus.    .
