bacterial infection

I was just told that I have a bacterial infection and I was prescribed a vaginal medication to clear it up. I have no symptoms though. I was also told that my pap smear came back abnormal and that I have to get a colposcomy. I haven't had a sexual partner in over a year, how is this possible?

The bacterial infection will not be HPV related. Pap smear coming back abnormal doesn't necesarily mean you are positive for HPV, you will have to ask them about that.

Even if you've not been sexually active for a year, you can still have HPV. HPV is a virus which once you get it, you will have it forever. However after some time it can lay dormant in your system, but it can become active again.
