still trying to figure out when i got HPV

ok. here goes. i am still trying to figure out when and where and how i could have gotten hpv.
i guess what makes me wonder so much, is when will it go away? if i have not had sex in over 2 years, then why have i not cleared the virus yet? why did the warts just appear? cdc says 90% of people will clear hpv within 2 years. well, have i just gotten infected by it recently somehow? i did spend quite a bit of time in and out of the hospitals with a family member who passed away with cancer. could i have picked it up on my hand and then maybe scratched my behind and transmitted it that way? no sexual contact in over 2 years. i also read that uncleanliness can make warts appear. i was not taking regular showers for weeks.. i just did not care how clean i was. i know that my private parts (genitals and anal area) were not clean like they should have been. they were sweaty and it seems the warts started out in the anal area, maybe where i did not wipe myself well enough. then they spread. but i never had any on my penis or scrotum. none there at all that i can remember, maybe a zit or two in my pubic area, NONE on penis..but the zit in pubic hair went away like in a day or two. not a wart though. anyway, i guess what i am wanting to know is when will this be over? my warts are totally gone from what i can tell. the podofolox (sp) worked wonders, my butt is smooth again, no warts at all from what i can see or feel. i just want to know if there is something wrong with my immune system or something, because if i have had this for 2 years already, why have i not cleared it. please somone help me figure this out. i had hiv tests, all negative..please help sort this out.. thks!

so, i guess it makes some sense.. my immune system is working fine, due to the warts appearing, it is an immune response. am i correct? also, i guess the stress and poor hygiene played a role in these warts appearing, correct? thanks for your help. do these points i have made make any sense?

It will go away eventually, unfortunately it is hard to predict the exact time.

Not likey a new infection. Although 90% will clear it in 2 years, 10% will not, that is still a significant number. You didn't show symptoms until now, perhaps the infection was dormant, and didn't warrant an immune system response.

i did spend quite a bit of time in and out of the hospitals with a family member who passed away with cancer. could i have picked it up on my hand and then maybe scratched my behind and transmitted it that way?

No, you didn;t get this from the hospital, however the  stress of losing family members probably contributed to the outbreak of warts.

For the rest of your post, don't worry it is not all that uncommon for people to experience symptoms long after exposure. Keep clean, eat well, exercise, and generally try to stay healthy as this will improve your immune defenses. There is no way to know if your body has cleared the virus, but the immune system usually does. If you go 6 months without systems, there is a good chance that you have cleared the virus. Although you cannot be sure, the chances of you having the virus isn't that much greater than someone else who hasn't shown symtoms.

HIV test is negative, so worries there. I don't think there is anything wrong with your immune system, you just got worn down with the stress in your life.

Similarily, my warts appeared (or at least were noticed)  months after my last sexual encounter, but during a stressful time in my life. I was writing college exams and had to deal with losing a close family member.
