The cause of gential warts is a low risk strain of HPV. There are more than one strain that can cause warts, there are also high risk strains that can cause cell changes. In total there are almost 40 gential strains of HPV, in total there are almost 200 HPV's.
HPV is very common and almost all sexually active adults will have some of the strains in there lifetime. Once we get a strain we have it the rest of our life. We can have one or many strains. Some people never get symtoms and some people do. Some factors are immune system issues and stress. Usually the immune system will clear symptoms within 24 months but in some cases symptoms show up after a dormant period or there are flare ups. Rarely HPV can cause serious health issues but that is usually connected to other serious health issues, long term drinking and smoking.
There are many treatments for warts, some go away on their own, there are natural options (google to find those), a doc (gyn, dermatologist, clinic) can help with finding what treatment is right for you. I have done acid and now will start an RX called Aldara. Other options include laser and burning.
