There are a lot of reasons why he might have bumps or irritation. Since he went to the doctor, the doctor probably told him something. You should consider asking him what the marks were.

For herpes there is a test available that will work if you don't have symptoms. Many doctors chose to only test for when symptoms are present though because there are some instances of false positives and some tests are inconclusive. If you tell the doc about your exposure, he or she may suggest the test.

There is no test for warts. There is no cure either. Fortunately, many people don't show any symptoms, and it the virus is cleared by the immune system in a short period of time (most are under a year). The virus that causes warts is not generally associated with cancer, so without symptoms, there is little to worry about. Most sexually active people get at least one strain of HPV in their lifetime, and most of these people do not develop symptoms or complications.

Is there any reason why you don't believe him? Most people will tell the truth when asked directly.
If he doesn't have warts, you are worrying needlessly.
