Adhesion

Well, I have news and a question.  my recent post was about severe pelivc pain.  i ended up having emergency exploratory surgery this weekend.  they found a ton of adhesions all over my uterus, attaching to all the surrounding organs and bowe.  they also did a DandC.  they scrapped out a on of, i dont know what.  i had gone to the ER over the weekend 2 times and they did every test under the sun.  nothing was showing up.i was passing huge clotts one after the other.  finally they decided they need to go in and brought me to the OR in a matter of 1 hour.  it was so crazy how fast they did everything.  anyway, my question is has anyone experienced this and is it true that a hysterectomy is really the perminent cure for this?  my understanding is that adhesions can grow back and i have an appt next week to discuss this. anyone have this experience, and what are your recommendations.  i am 33 and have had 2 transverse csections, 2 healthy boys.  please advise.thank you and im so glad i finally found relief

Yup Sharons got it right they really mean dont do anything...it can be kinda nc to just be totally free of any obligations just once in your life try to think of it like that, turn it into a positive.  Best wishes to you !!

Being a patient patient is the hardest thing in the universe
It was explained to me not to drive when taking narcotics (of course)
And further not to drive while there was still abd pain (approx six weeks)
because you will be reluctant to press the brake pedal and that may cause
an accident ... basically they said dont do anything until my post op and then
only with caution ... Just listen to your body after that
Glad you are out and about
Love,
Sharon

Laney,
I wouldnt even consider going to gym till you go for your post op, Im only a CNA and Iknow that, yes it is very hard to be a patient isnt it?

My post op instructions when I had my hysterectomy was to do nothing for 2 weeks . I could climb stairs after day 2 but limited, to as few trips as possible, no lifting, excessive bending etc...I felt good as you are now on about day 6 had my husband bring me a basket of towels, and I just sat on the floor and folded them. that little bit of motion set me into agony. You have just had major surgery, rest, heal.
You should be ok to drive after a week, just dont take any narcotics, until you get home.Be careful, your mind feels good and your used to being active, but you want to heal well, Id advise you to rent some good movies, do crossword puzzles, needlepoint whatever...take it easy on the physical stuff..give yourself a good 6 weeks, and get your post op, Im pretty sure this is the kind of advice you would give a patient isnt it ??

Take care , best wishes to you ..Cherie

Ladies,
Great information here. Thank you so much. I am a nurse, but I tell ya I think Im a terrible patient....lol. I had a hyst, appy and BSO on the 15th of this month. My instructions were pretty sparse as far as when I can do what. I know it's important to walk around, but they didnt tell me anything about going up/down stairs or driving. Any ideas when I can do this? I feel pretty good with the exception of a possible UTI and terrible constipation. I am dealing with the pain from surgery pretty good I think. Its all so scary and I don't want adhesions or anything that will require more surgery... I like being on the other side of the bed...lol
Thanks so much for all you do

Hi all,

Cherie, you are so right... many women have gotten help using the Bodyrolling technique to break up adhesions. And, I think I started this whole thing. I have only met one other woman on the boards who had heard of this type of thing since I started writing on the boards years ago.

That post on Adhesions on the Health Pages on the Ovarian Cyst forum and the Patient to patient Ovarian Cancer forum is from me...

Just to clarify, though, I have not heard of anyone using a Pilates ball. I have seen some posts about this in the past, however. And, when I am explaining what I do to others in person, the first thing they ask me is if they can use a Pilates ball. But, actually the ball is much smaller... it still has to be squishy, but I have used a small child's playing ball to do my bodyrolling.

Take a look at the post to get all the details because there is a ton of info there about just staying put on the pubic bone for some time before slowly rolling out to where the ovaries once were and then back again... then to the other side and back. Just once, but it should take about 10 minutes to do this because of the Slowness of how you are doing it.

Please let me know, anyone, if you cannot find the info and I can copy and paste here. I had HUGE and WONDERFUL results... And, certainly  I am open to the idea of using another type of ball, but in my mind, a Pilates ball would be too big.

Thanks for the interest!

Mary

Have any of you read the post about how to get rid of adhesions?  buy a pilates exercise ball, put iton the floor put your lower abdomen on it and kind of roll around with the ball betwen your belly and the floor, sound crazy but tons of women on here swear by it,

yes adhesion can grow back.

No a hysterectomy is not a good cure for adhesions itwill in fact likely cause more.Sigrid, I think you may have 2 seperate problems, sounds like scar tissue/adhesions plus a difficult recovery from the d an c

To all I can not stress enough ( OK  I am a cna plus I have had a hysterctomy and BSO) like the one poster above said , during this surgery it is incredibly important to follow post op instructions to the letter, just folding a basket of towels sent me into agony, your mind feels like you can do "things" afte surgery, but this is major, major, surgery you must force yourself to literally do nothing. rest, and heal thats your job for 6 weeks.

YES... adhesions can surely grow back. I went through a most horrible time in my life from adhesions. The doctor discovered them during a colonoscopy (OUCH!!!!!) at which time they found the adhesions were collapsing my colon. The doctor said they would not do surgery to get rid of the adhesions since the result would only be more adhesions. My quality of life was horrible.

PLEASE read my information on the Health Pages. I don't know if it is on this site or not. Go to either the Ovarian Cancer (Patient to patient) site or the Ovarian Cyst site and find the health pages in the upper right corner...click on that. My article is called "Relief for Surgical Adhesions."

Promise me that if you cannot find the information, you will let me know. I could copy it here.

There is HOPE!!!!!!!

I know when my sister had a hysterectomy and she did too much during recovery such as lifting before six weeks this caused adhesions and they had to go in again six months later to clean up the adhesions, so if you do have a hysterectomy, follow recovery advice to the T!

I don't know about whether adhesions grow back or not. What I hope is that hysterectomy really is the final cure as I am scheduled to have one on Oct 29th. They are not totally sure what all they will find when they go in but adhesions, scar tissue and or endo are all suspected. I just want to stop hurting as I am sure you do as well. I hope you are able to get the help you need. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us posted. God bless...Lynn
