Just had TAH and was wondering just how long would the huge abdominal bloating last??? I know everyone is different, but does anyone have a "guestimate"??  Also, was started on Vivelle Dot and have been reading alot about needing progesterone, my doc says no, what do you all think??

Was your surgery open or lap assisted vaginal hysterectomy?  Mine was open and I had the bloat for a good 8 weeks, and it still got worse after that.  As it turned out, I had massive scarring (adhesions) from the surgery and lost a couple feet of colon as a result.  If you're having any bathroom issues along with the bloating, make sure you tell your doctor about it.  Adhesions are less common with the laparscopic procedure, but not unheard of.

Try to remember that even though your wounds heal fairly quickly, your body is burning enormous amounts of calories due to all the healing going on inside.  Internal swelling seems to take forever to finally go away.  My sister had the same surgery as I did and with the same doctor.  Luckily, she didn't scar like I did but she had the bloat for two months and then it gradually went down.
