Hot flashes after a total hystercomy?

I had my hystercomy 12/2006....I have had hot flashes, night sweats, and mood swings almost every night before and after my hystercomy.

My mother-in-law told me that I did not have a total hystercomy if I am still having night sweats, hot flashes, mood swings, and etc.....

my question is.....Am I going crazy or is it normal to have those systoms?

hi if your ovaries where removed, that constitues a total hyster...no ovaries equals surgical induced menopause, thus the symptoms of hot flashes, sweats etc....speak with your dr about Bio identical hormone replacement therapy...stay away from premarine...

above poster is right you need to have levels tested to get right hormones or combo,,,it seems to me that most..not all need estrogen only.

feel better and call that DR!!!!!

You are not crazy. You are going through menopause - which is a process. While the ovaries may be gone, there is still estrogen floating around and it takes a while to get out of the body and that is why you will have symptoms plus your body may be out of wack with other hormones.
I know after my TAH-BSO and could not take replacements for a while, I was a mess. I am still pretty hot and it has been years - that is unusual.
You still have one other source of estrogen in your adrenals. Have your doc test your DHEA-sulfate if you are worried with the rest of your hormones.
