I am 38 now but I was 34 when I had a total hysterectomy in 2006. I was @ 26 when I found out that I had PCOS and what that ment for me. I was devistated, but once I came to terms with being childless I was ok with that and was even better when the Dr. finally told me she was doing a complete hysterectomy on me. There are pros and cons but you have to wiegh that for yourself. I use to get the same answer the doctors are giving you, but I had a cyst come up on my right ovary for the second time and they decided to do the hysterectomy. This was an answer to prayer for me.
The pros of a hysterecetomy is no more worry about sever pain and constant bleeding.
The cons the sever depression, hot flashes, mood swings, irritablility, agrivation of everyday living. Yet if you are going through what I am imagining you already are living your life like this.
My Dr. has refused to put me on HRT because of the fear of breast cancer.
The Dr. that did the surgery did put me on HRT but I found out what it was made of and that changed my mind as to wreather I wanted to take it or not. NOT!
I hope you find a dr. that will listen to what you want. You know more about your body than they do, be presistant and determined.
i am 30 years old and dealing with pcos. But almost everyday i deal with pain in my pelvic area and legs, days i cant walk sit , i am so tired, i ran a fever 3 times in 2 weeks, had two ruptured cyts that left me worse and my stomch inflammed to were i looked like i was 5 months prego. i have been on pain meds and deal with my heavy, clotty periodes, and pain with sex is anbearable. I wanna hystorectomy, but 3 docs say no, its not safe for me at my age??????? now they think its endomitriosis..... I have an appt to talk about my options for the pain that i go through almost every single day, can somebody help me with the pros and cons?
Has your Dr preformed a laparoscopy yet? He/she should be able to tell if you have endometrioisis with this test. There could be options besides a hysterectomy if you do indeed have endometriosis. Has your Dr said anything about doing a biopsy?
If I were you, I would get a second opinion. I actually did before having my surgery.
If you do have to have a hysterectomy there are hormone options that will help you with the possible mood swings and hot flashes. Some women do well with out hormones and others don't.
