colon nicked during surgery

I am a month out of surgery and my question is to anyone that had a vaginal hysterectomy and had their colon nicked during the procedure.  I didn;t discover this until the day after when I began getting sick then got rushed back on to have surgery to fix it.  I had to stay in the hospital for a week due to an infection setting in to be on IV antibiotics.  Towards the end of the week we discovered I developed a fistula.  Anyone had to deal with with a vaginal fistula?  If so please tell me what to expect and what to do?  Thanks

An abnormal opening between the vagina and another organ such as the bladder, urethra or rectum. This can result in incontinence (either leaking urine or feces from the vagina) which is stressful  for the patient. Common cause of vaginal fistula occur following pelvic operations such as a hysterectomy.

Is yours a retro-fistula meaning an opening between vagina and rectum? or just a fistula.?Do you have almost always leaking fluid from vagina?
this would mean your fistula is from vagina into bladder.

If I was you and it was the bladder situation I would see a top notch urological surgeon and also get a second opinion from a highly recommende gyn surgeon...Your very best case senerio would be to have both surgeons on board for a correction surgery.

Every surgery has different results,,the poster aboves mom unfortunatly had some very serious side effects. You could do a search and hear from many who just had a great recovery to those who had a horrible recovery.

With very good surgeons I think the recovery is probably inbetween. Ask Dr. if doing Keagels exercises would help post op and how long to wait to do them.
