IS THIS POSSIBLE????

I had a total hysterectomy in 97 age 25 for endometriosis. The previous year i had to have surgery for severe right sided pain which was discovered to be caused by ovarian cysts on my right ovary. Hysterectomy removed my ovaries, cervix, etc.. 4 years ago i develoved lower right sided abdominal pain which came and went and varied in severity. I had urine tests which ruled out kidney stones, an abdominal x-ray and blood tests which revealed nothing. Pain disappeared for the last 12 months but returned in January with a vengeance and has remained ever since. My GP finally decided to do his job and recommended me for an ultrasound scan. Feeling very depressed today after being told i may have to wait many many months before i get scan because of the waiting list. I also have severe hip and back pain and started seeing a chiropracter who thinks my abdominal pain is not connected to my back pain and seemed surprise when he found out i had never seen a gynaecologist since my hysterectomy. Now what i want to know is the pain is in the same area i had my ovarian cyst pain/endometriosis and as far as my memory goes seems to be the same type of pain. Is it remotely possible that somehow my endometriosis has come back in that area. ? Doctors laugh when i ask that. Please help, thanks.

I see you live in UK...sorry you have to wait so long....Above poster i have to dissagree, ebdometrial tissue for those whom have endometriosis goes into the pelvic cavity,as well as some coming out in menses, it can grow  post hysterectomy (the part in pelvic)....I had my uterus removed...a year later ovary was engulfed in endo tissue addheared to bowel,,,,my Dx for hyster was endometriosis..Endo tissue has been found as far up as lung.

Jen could be addhesions. scar tissue, or endometrial tissue playing havoc,,,I have heard from many many ladies of endo attaching things that should not be (organs,,)

Chiropractors are very usefull, its very unlikely to find a chiro and mD whom agree...diffenernt views on medicine.  If you get relief from chiro,,go for it...I still believe you should see MD when able..I understand that even if Dr is rude it is difficult to get a different Dr in some European countrys..

write back if you have more info or questions. Cherie

Jen its just a very simple blood test ...one in ten middle age women have thyroid issues. Id insist he do the blood test. no reasonable reason not to.

That is really interesting. I would never have thought about thyroid. I will certainly see if i can convince my dr to check it. Thank you.

You are so right...I did a study on this once....dont know the "why" but its a fact that many women after a hysterectomy develop thyrodi problems....I even did a poll on the thyroid forum to see how many women has menstural/female issues and it was really a high percent..

I had a total hysterectomy 5 years ago and endometrious came back on bowels and  bladder. You may need to have your thyroid checked. May produce estrogen and you may be getting to much.

Excellent advice Cherie. It is so easy when you have health problems and pain for it to consume your entire life. As you say you need to have a day off and forget it all. In hindsight i wish i had never had my op as i now learn there were other alternatives. When a doctor tells you it is a very simple straightforward op and you will be skipping through the daisies afterwards like i was told then you should definitely get a new doctor. Oh if only forums such as this had been around in 1997. Best wishes Jen.

I hope so too Jen, and I know the words I say are easy to , well say. Im 5 years post op, honestly in hindsight, I should have insisted Dr remove my bad ovary at time of hyster, then I would have saved myself one surgery.

For today Jen, try to forget all, do that a few times per week, its good for the soul, just have a pamper Jen day, do what you like best, go to lunch movie, or stay home in jammies, eat  good junk food and read etc... when things are difficult and we must deal with so much, it is very helpful to psych and physical health to give self a day off.

I have a really good friend in Aussie,,,and its much of the same,,,,this girl has multiple reasons she needs a hyster and has suffered for years....docs wont let her.

All Drs and offices make mistakes lets hope it was as simple as that....Be your own advocate...Im in a legal situation where staff doe'snt do what it should I phone, email, drop in...I want what I deserve......
You deserve for things not to get lost etc  although it should NOT be your responsibility to be certain everyone is doing their jobs start, checking up on them...ask dr what his plans are ...if hes asking for a scan...say when? follow up by phoning hospital repeatedly if needed. Us women can be strong!!!!! dont settle for anything less !

hugs

Thank you so much for responding everyone. I have started the process to change my gp and find a practice much more sympathetic. I also found out today that my dr faxed a request to the hospital for a scan on 9th February and surprise surprise hospital saying they never got it and it is missing. Dr now has to fax new request and i have to go to the back of the waiting list and keep my fingers crossed this request does not vanish.

NO, if you had a total hysterectomy, you have no uterus.  Endometrium is the lining of the uterus, no uterus, no endometrium.  You could have adhesions, which is scar tissue from previous surgery.  An ultrasound would reveal that.  No doctor should laugh at you. Try another radiology department besides the one with the long waiting list.  Good luck.

Hi Jennifer,
I have been told several times different people and docs that endometriosis NEVER is gone. Although having a hysterectomy certainly limits the chances that it is back there is always a possibilty. Did you have your ovaries removed as well?
