I'm Scared...

Hi there.  I'm new to the forum.  I am 39 and due to have a vaginal hysterectomy and partial oopherectomy on 9/8.  I've been dealing with endometriosis since I was 28 or 29.  Thankfully, thru several surgeries, I was able to have two beautiful girls.  I am done with children as well as my husband.  Birth control never has worked... caused weight gain and unbearable mood swings.  My doc said to try the Mirena IUD and I feel I've been losing my mind.. Been on it 9 months.  Since my daughters were born, I had to go on an antidepressant and stayed on it since.  Despite that, I am hating who I am.  I've become an ugly person inside and out and I blame the IUD.  Therefore, my doc felt I gave all the alternatives my all and ok'd me to have a hysterectomy and removal of right ovary.  If left looks bad, she'll take that out too.

I'm scared I'm trading one set of symptoms for another set of disappointments by having a hysterectomy.  I have pain, daily bleeding and moodiness/rage but at least I have great orgasms.  Anyone out there that can give words of encourgement?

Hi Welcome to the forum,
Anout your concerns of "trading one set of symptoms for another" well, sometimes only sometimes that happens to degrees varing from slight to severe for some. Sever is very very rare, I have been CL on here for quite sometime and Id be less than honest if I claimed that never happened. The vast majority of the time its like the above poster said which is also identical to my own experience,.For me a hysterectomy gave me back quality of life, not to say I didnt have a few hot flashes and moodiness UNTIL I got my hormone therapy right. THEN I was like the old me only pain free.

Big hint if Mirena effects you this way do not let any doctor talk you into Leupron its effects are the same if not more sever regarding moods .I oppted not to try it as my dr said" Many come into my office crying begging to be taken off it " ( an injection:)

All side effects from hysterectomy can be dealth with it is so very nice to be pain free, and personally I like not dealing with the monthly, that being said it is MAJOr surgery and should not be entered into lightly, you are young and you deserve QUALITY of life.
Read up on BIOIDENTICAL hormone replacement..many younger women need just a tad of estrogen and the hotflashes and moodiness are gone I used a Estrogen Patch called vivelle slap a tiney patch on two time a week and good to go, still had normal sex drive etc..

Hi there! You're not trading anything. The hyster will make you feel a whole lot better. I had everything removed back in 2/2008 and the ONLY thing I have is small short hot flashes. They are nothing compared to the pain I went through before the hyster. I suffered A LOT and I am VERY happy I had the hyster, it changed everything. Don't worry about orgasms because they will still happen - I worried about that too and that didn't change. You will do fine :)
