Psoas Hitch

Has anyone out there had a psoas hitch for a severed ureter?  How has it worked for you?  Any side effects?  Did you have open surgery?

My obgyn cut my ureter during a routine hysterectomy.  I went through hell for two months until the problem was discovered.  Now I have a nephrostomy tube and bag.  I have reimplantation surgery scheduled for July 6th at Johns Hopkins.  I'm interested to know how things have gone for others.  Both the immediate recovery and the long term.

Thanks!

Hello TWR,

I'm so glad all is well with you!!  I'm especially happy that it seems your cancer was taken care of!   I actually had my surgery before you, last July.  I could have "helped" you if we had connected sooner :) I, too, am doing well.  I can run 5 miles and do all my stuff at the gym.  The worst for me was the pain the night after my surgery. I don't know any men who have had this but I Have been in touch with several other women, all of whom it happened to during a hysterectomy.  One of the women, who also had her surgery in Oct., was doing great but now is having great trouble with her bladder.  She is waiting to find out what her problem is.  I will let you know when I find out because she thinks she did something to herself exercising.  If so, we all need to know what happened.  I've been told I can do anything but now I'm wondering.
All the best!

I'm male but had the same operation in October, 2011 to repair a severed left ureter accidentally damaged during an operation seven months earlier to remove cancer of the colon.

The op. was a complete success and I can now do hill walks of 10+ miles, swim, eat, drink and pee normally.   Removal of my nephrostomy was the most painful part of the process.

I am delighted to have my life back again
