LADIES

Did any of you have a hysterectomy due to utrine cancer? What was your experience? I just found out and have not seen the gyn/oncologist yet. What should I expect I'm in stage 1. How do they close you etc.?

As for related tests:

I didn't have any: they did an ultrasound of my ovaries and uterus when my period went totally out of control last summer and sent me to the emergency room.  From there, they found a polyp, removed it, and it was malignant.  I chose to have a hysterectomy (my Drs. told me I could keep the uterus and come back for tests periodically, but I didn't want to chance it).  It was good that I decided to have it out since there was still a little cancer left on the inside wall of my uterus.

I have had pain the the area of the pancreas, oddly enough, don't know if it's related, but since you have it too it may be, or it might just be coincidental.  My Dr. found nothing wrong with my pancreas.  I,too, have previously had pain in my ovaries: like a little kind of cramping, sharp pain.  It was mild, but noticeable.  However, when I had my surgery, the Dr. said my ovaries looked great so I got to keep them: yay no early menopause!

From my overall experience, my advice to you would be this: enjoy your life.  As hard as it is, try not to worry about the aches and pains you might be experiencing (keep track of them to tell your Dr., but worrying just drove me crazy, esp. since there's nothing I could do about them).  Hopefully you will have an experience like mine, they will find it early, remove it, and there will be no more trouble after that.  At least that's what I'm trying to make out of my experience!

Hope this answers your questions, and please feel free to ask away any more questions.  The memory of the pain from surgery fades as you get past it, but I still remember very vividly the fear and anxiety this caused.  If I can be of any help to you, I'm here.

Thank you so much. I have had a hard time finding another woman whose had this experience. I re-read my last post lots of typos. My CT Scan showed the cancer is only in my Uterus. Which is great news. However it showed that my pancreas is enlarged. Don't know why.  Also I have this on and off mild pain where I think my left overy is. Did your CT Scan or other test show anything questionable? And did you ever have pain that was unexplained? Waiting to hear from you.

BL:
I was diagnosed with uterine cancer back in November and had a partial hyster. in early Jan.  They took my uterus and cervix.  My cancer was also contained in the uterus and was found incredibly early.  My dr. has given me a 99.9% chance that I'm cured right now.  I also was told my cancer was very slow-growing, so I hope this is the case for you too.  I was very scared and worried when I first found out (I'm a 29 year old non-smoker, so cancer was quite the shock to me) but ultimately I believe everything worked out.  I hope this is your experience too.  This scare put me in a position to think about my life and has allowed me to make some positive changes, considering my diagnosis could have been much worse.  So, as crazy as it sounds, it helped me to try and see something good in this, maybe that will help you deal with the fear, too.  I am not trying to make light of your situation, obviously I don't know you, but hopefully my comments have helped.

My experience post-op:
--The recovery is slow-going but really the gas pain from the inflation of my abdomen was the worst part.  Do as much walking around as is comfortable, it helps.
--I was exhausted for much of the first two weeks after surgery: listen to your body!  If you are tired, rest.  If you are in pain, take something for it.  I found Ibuprophen to be the most helpful.
--You will be surprised how quickly the incision heals, at least I was, but give your abdomen time to heal.  The muscles take a long time to get back to normal; I'm five weeks post-op and my muscles still aren't 100%.

Good luck to you, BL.

I have not had good luck finding detail imfo. regarding Uterine Cancer. I was Diagnosed two weeks ago. Only a clear discharge sometimes red. No pain. Now I have constant pain on my left side. and have light cramping half the time. My CT Scan showed that it was contained in my uterus. And everything else looked normal expect for my Pancreas. I can't find out anything about that either. No pain there only terrilbe heartburn. I know the pancreas has to do with controlling the acids in your stomach but that's it. There's going to be a general surgeon there when I have the hyster. Perhaps they think she is in the very very early stages and it won't grow faster than having the baby. I would very much like to know. I go to the Onocologist tuesday. I plan to ask him and also what type exactly it is. I look up Hyster-sisters and I felt lost. It's complicated to navigate. And the woman use so many abbreviations i'm clueless.

They told her when she was first diagnosed with the cancer that they would give her six months to get pregnant again, but after that she needs to consider getting it taken out.

I just think the whole thing is kind of strange. Why would doctors tell her it's ok to get pregnant before six months? I just don't understand it.

Have you read up on Uterine cancer? I heard that it's a slow growing cancer, but I'm not a doctor, so I am not positive on that one. And I have no idea if there are certain types of Uterine cancer or not.

I don't blame you for wanting to get it out as soon as possible. I would too.

What has the Doctors told her? I'm so ready to get out of me. I worry about how fast does the cancer grow. I feel for her so much. Happy and sad.

No. The thing is she's pregnant again! I can't believe it! So who knows when she'll have surgery.

I know the most painful part is the waiting. You asked about how they close you up, well, if you are having a vaginal hysterectomy and the cervix is also removed, they usually sew you closed where the cervix used to be. At least this is how my surgeon did mine because I had my cervix removed too.

I have a niece that was also diagnosed with uterine cancer, but she's had it for a while so I am not sure what stage she's in. I bet she could possibly be in a later stage than you.

I am so sorry you are going through this. You will probably have to wait and see what the gyn/onco recommends. How soon is your appointment to see him/her?
