TOTAL HYSTERCTOMY

Hi, I'm 51 and had total hysterctomy about 17 yrs ago because of Endometriosis.   I did the Esterderm patch for a year and thats all.  My question is my reg. MD said I don't need a pap smear anymore. I probably had one 8yrs ago and I'm on no HRT .  Friends has been telling me I'm crazy for listen to her and I need HRT and pap smear.  I have no thyroid so I don't know if that means anything.  But I'm no meds for that cuz my TSH is 52.45.  So. do I need the pap smear and HRT?

OH! I forgot to mention. I am prone to blood clots so HRT might not be a good idea for me. I don't know if you watched Oprah today, but her show was all about HRT. I guess Dr. Northrop is an expert on HRT and she was suppose to do a webcast earlier tonight on Oprah's website - I missed it because I had fallen asleep on the couch! I could kick myself for that! It really would have been informative. This hormone thing has me so confused :(

Thank you for the input. I think your Dr is right, it only makes sense.  On the HRT I'm not sure  but, I understand if your doing fine its ok. I wish I knew because you hear so many things about your bones if your not on something.

You DO need the pap smear. At least this is what my doctor told me. He said I have to have one every 2 years to check for vaginal cancer. He said even though everything else is gone I still have the vagina and that needs to be tested. You should see another GYN.

About the HRT. I don't know if you need it or not. I'm not taking it either and I was wondering the same thing about myself, whether I need it or not.
