hysterectomy recomended

Hi all, I am new here.  I have a few questions....Ok, maybe several :-)

I am 36, and 11 wks postpartum. My crvex in about 1/2 inch from the opening of my vagina.  Somedays after a poop or long standing it is to the edge.  I thought that this was my only problem until I went back for a longer exam.  Apparently, my wall between the vagina and the colon is paper thin, and my baldder is sagging.  Some days things are better and other days it is worse.

My gyno recomends a vagan hysterectomy with other reapairs.  Apparently there is a decent size hole in the pelvic floor.  Here is the embarasing question:  He wants to remove the cervex.  Will this affect um, well, you know?!?!?!  When the cervex is moved during intercourse, it can be felt.  If it is not there, well, what will that do?

I am going for a swecond opinion with a female gyno next week.  Any advice on what to ask and what to do.  I also have Multiple sclorosis.  My doc feels that I should not put it off because as I age the MS will begin to truly make it worse.

Thank you all in advance for helping me with this embarasing topic.

Everything he said makes perfect sense. I'm glad he told you every single reason for removing the cervix.

If you leae it, you must have an abdominal procedure.  Since there is history of abnormal paps in the family, he thought that it would be better to take it.  With all of the repair work that I need, he siad that it would just be dead weight pulling everything back down.  He aslo said that you could bleed as though you were having a period.

What reasons did she give for taking the cervix? I had a feeling your Dr would really recommend removing it.

I got your message and responded to it. Don't be surprised if your Dr refuses to leave your cervix. You will still have to get paps but with your cervix gone there won't be any cervical cancer.
I'm hoping our CL Cherrie will jump in here and give you a definite answer. She knows everything there is to know about hysterectomies.   Remar

I sent you a private message.  I hope that you get it.  Why is it better to remove the cervex?  Will there be any internal feeling during intercourse if it is taken?

In my opinion, it's best to remove the cervix if your having the uterus removed. I can send you a private message if you feel more comfortable with that. We will be talking about your sex life and what to expect after surgery. Your very welcome to send me one first if you would like to talk in private. I'm the Co-Community Leader here at the hysterectomy forum. Cherie is our wonder Community Leader. So feel free to send either of us a private message. We're here to help.    Remar

He said that some surgeons will leave the cervex, but he was tought to remove it. That is where the only feeling of pleasure form sex comes from.  My 11 week old will not stop screaming long enought for me to type.  Be back later

Yes, your cervix will be removed if they remove your uterus. I'm not sure what your question is. Are you asking if you'll still have the orgasm contractions after the surgery?  Please don't be embarrassed about asking any questions on this forum. Anyone that is facing this kind of surgery wants to know what to expect. This is only natural. I'm glad to hear your getting a second opinion. It's something I did even though I completely trusted my Dr and he did an excellent job with my surgery. We're here to help you anyway we can.    Remar
