hysterectomy

Why would a doctor during a hysterectomy take out the uterus through the rectum?

I've certainly never heard of this.  It would certainly not be normal as the doctor would have to cut the large intestine to get the uterus through the anus.  The two structures are completely separate from each other and one doesn't lead to the other, so it'd be highly unusual.
