Hysterectomy means the surgical removal of the uterus. The uterus or womb is where babies grow prior to birth.

I have heard that endometriosis can occur at the site of the scar from the cesarean. Perhaps that has happened. Murphlib is right try not to be afraid. I am 4 weeks out from a total hysterectomy (endo everywhere!) and am doing well. I'm sure you will too.

I think you mean "have a baby by cesarean section" -- meaning instead of a vaginal delivery, they surgically enter through the abdomen to remove the baby.  It would be highly unlikely any placenta would be left behind.  I don't know much about endometriosis, but it's my understanding it is unterine lining growing where it doesn't belong.  In other words, growing outside the uterus, elsewhere in the abdomen and attached to stuff it would not normally be attached to.

Endometriosis can cause heavy bleeding with periods or in between periods, and can cause quite a bit of pain, so I imagine that's why they want to go ahead with a hysterectomy.

Try not to be afraid.  Get a second doctor's opinion if you are wondering if the surgery is necessary.  I had a partial hysterectomy (one ovary was left in) in late December and I am feeling pretty much back to normal at 6 weeks, just require a bit more rest than usual.

Good luck.
