recovery fears

I had a lap. hyst. with ovary removal 11 days ago.  I was told 2 weeks recovery but am reading 6 weeks on your postings.... I deliver mail and am scared I will be sent back to work too soon.... At 11 days I still have pain at the 3 incision sites and some radiating pain from them... I am also slow to get up or sit down...and I get wiped out just going out for a bit.  I started walking on an eliptical machine slowly 3 days ago.... felt good but was more sore.... I have a few questions I guess.... is 2 weeks too soon for me to return to delivering mail..... is it too soon to do exercises.... how much pain is acceptable and not damaging?  I have also posted a question about when do hot flashes start as I don't think they've started yet.... maybe warm flashes... I want to stay away from HRT!!!!

Hi  Red and welcome...I think you need to clarify with your Dr what he means by two week recovery,,,does he mean you can start driving...thats usually the two week mark.

recovery as far as lifting, excessive bending, sex is always 6 weeks from every thing I have ever read and every surgeon I have ever spoken to,,,,your body needs time to heal,,,thats a very serious surgery, your anatomy is shifting to fill the void where you organs once were.

also not to mention being thrown into a surgical menopause.

I think pain at 11 days is normal for most.

I think you should ask your surgeon about the eliptical walking and yes I think 2 weeks is too soon to deliver mail...I would doubt the usa mail department would allow it...it would put them at liabialitty should you fall, get dizzy have a car accedient etc,,,

You know menopausal symptoms are different for everyone...I just had hot flashes and night sweats,,used vivelle patch for a year...the sweats are long gone I stopped hormones one year post op and still have a very rare hot flash which is not a big deal to me.

there is a chance you may be one of the lucky ones....

speak w dr but not having estrogen is risky for bones ask if he recomends Vit D increase supplement, increase vit D by foods also.

good luck glad your doing well...but my theory is always better safe than sorry..if your having pain still and taking narcotics it is illegal to drive..You state it is hard to get up and down..take it easy let yourself heal by week 6 you will feel much better..rest is best..thats why In not so sure about the exercise..may be pushing self to hard,.I know its difficult to just sit read watch tv all day etc but its best for you...try ice packs for the pain..no heat increases swelling.

oh and it's a good thing I had this surgery because the pathology came back with more fibroids, cysts on my tubes and endometriosys!!!!  No wonder I was hurting so much and clotting and this was after I had a uteran ablasion last year!!!

I am going back to work at 2.5 weeks.  I am feeling good but it doesn't take much to get tired so I started vitamins.... I hope that helps.  I had to push the Dr to give me restrictions and she's a woman..... she was just gonna send me right back to work delivering mail without restrictions!!!!  I will let you all know how it goes.... my incisions are still sore and so is my stomach.... Bowels not right yet but I am learning to stay away from anything that can constipate.... yogurt is my friend!!!

Your very welcome. Please do let us know what your Dr says. It's not uncommon to still be having some pain after only 2 weeks. I hope everything is alright with your incision. Yay! Still no hot flashes. That's great.  Remar

Even though they left your cervix you had major surgery. You really need a 6 week recovery time. I take it you would be standing on your feet at work even with a light work duty schedule? That would not be good. If you can sit then that's a little different. But 2 weeks is still too soon to return to work. Maybe at 3 or 4 weeks only if it's part time while sitting. Listen to your body and don't over do things or you could really hurt yourself. Take care. Remar

My Cervix was left so do you think that that makes a difference in recovery?
Feeling better every day.... today being day 14 but the largest incision still radiates  pain and there is still soreness in abdomen.... not awful but still there so I am trying to work out a light duty schedule with work at the PO otherwise I will use up all my leave for the year!

Thanks again for you input!!
