ibs and valium

I have IBS and have been diagnosed with many food sensitivities.  I have had recent back issues and my doctor prescribed me with valium for muscle spasms.  What I have noticed is my stomach feels better and the bloating goes away after I take the valium.  I always have edema in my fingers and my ankles...most likely from food and with the valium it goes away.  Really?  What is going on?

IBS is at least partly stress-induced, therefore it's logical that valium helps. I've been suffering from IBS for years and valium certainly helps in my case - although it's potentially addictive so you have to be careful how much you take. I find that a 5mg tablet every 2 or 3 days is enough. Regards

Hi, valium is known to cause constipation. Its unlikely that valium is causing relief from your symptoms of bloating or edema. Its more likely that you are avoiding food which aggravates your symptoms and hence the relief. So, maintain a diary and note down your symptoms, this may help to monitor if the medication or food is providing relief. But good you are doing well. Regards.
