So Confused

Hello all. I believe I have IBS, but my main issue is a symptom that may have developed with it - an uncontrollable body odor (it never goes away - I can shower ten times a day and I will still smell). This may sound funny, but it is a very serious problem for me. I had to leave school and work due to all the constant torment and I now never leave my house, except for doctor's appointments. I am currently trying out different remedies and adjusting my diet to see if this will help. I am also getting a few tests done. However, my main question is this. Does anyone know if doctors are taught to lie to their patients about body odors? I ask this because I constantly hear of people (I've must have read hundreds of accounts on support forums) with an odor being told that they don't smell, and that it might be all in their head. However, it is clear to these people that this isn't true, judging from the reactions and comments of others (quite a few people who proved to be positive for a genetic condition called trimethylaminuria were told that they didn't smell. In these cases, I really doubt the doctors' honesty, since this condition can produce extremely strong odors). It is extremely frustrating to see people avoid you, cover their noses when around you, coughing, and rubbing their noses. Not to mention the rude stares and nasty comments. And while witnessing all of that, people tell you that they don't smell anything. All four doctors that I have seen tell me that I do not have a body odor, yet their body language tells me otherwise (they all cough and rub their noses continuously. I know that these actions are common, but I see these reactions to an excess). I just don't know what to believe anymore, and I can't understand why doctors are so adamant in denying the existence of a clearly present odor. Thank you for reading my post. I'm sure it sounds bizarre, at the least.

I Have the same exact thing! I have had IBS for years because I had awful Celiac disease. I have had so many colonoscopies and endoscopies, but they say everything is normal?! I too have to be homeschooled because I was getting looks, being called names, etc. People ALWAYS cough, breathe in really loudly, sniff, cover their nose, and stuff like that too when I walk into a room. It is awful! Also, i never leave my house unless it's to go to the doctor or pick up my sister from school. My parents think that I'm lazy and insocial, but that is so not true! I WANT to do all these things, but I can't because it's emotionally and mentally unbearablle. Sometimes I do notice that I am farting, but can't feel it (sorry it's nasty. Iknow!) I think that may be what the problem is. I actually can't smell it myself, but I can tell by other people's expressions that I smell. Plus the doctors don't ever say anyting, which drives me insane! I have no cure sadly, but I sure can relate

:-)  Yeah, I've been learning lots of complimentary things that are well-suited for my own specific issues, which is why I've heard of using activated charcoal as a temporary solution for GI issues.  I haven't actually used it myself, but it's something I have definitely heard about using.

Hey FurballsMom.

Very good observation!
We did cover indeed (with messaging) a lot of  fundamental complimentary and alternative options.  Thanks for the suggestion, just the same.
And it is true that she does know what she's talking about.
It is refreshing to see this. Way to go apr90!

I do believe that Nikodicreta's suggestion for a temporary fix for the activated charcoal is alright on a temporary basis.  Activated charcoal helps a lot of other GI issues, too.  But, don't rely on it continually long-term.  You still have to find the root of the problem.  I'm sure she knows it shouldn't be used long-term, but I do suggest going to the complementary forum or messaging her.  I think she sounds like she knows what she is talking about.

Hey apr90.

There's a condition called parosmia. Please look it up.
The smell is obvious and real to you!  Is it to every person in you home?
How about your closest friends? You must ask them, so you can rule out that possibility.
So if they sense what you are sensing then you proceed with ways to remedy this.

There's a good probability that your I.B.S. is causing this. Toxins are probably going out through the skin, slow digesting foods are  staying too long in the body ,
bacteria overgrowth, low zinc levels , yeast infection, all can contribute.

Addressing your I.B.S will help a lot. For a fast remedy try activated charcoal capsules,
as they have a tremendous odor and gas absorbing capacity. Just follow the instructions
on the label.

Should you need additional help for a more fundamental approach, since my suggestions are all holistic, you must post at the alternative therapies (forum rules) or message me
directly.
Hang in there, be patient for a little while longer, and all this will soon get better.
  Blessings,
Nikodicreta

I recently bought Flat- D offline but i dont know if it really works yet but you should give it a shot. i dont really have any good advice because it  just happened suddenly this year of my freshman year of high school. My mom also suggested that a hypnotist can help with these sort of  things so maybe you should try that? sorry i dont know much more but hopefully this will help
