gurgling stomach & chronic diarrihia

For past 6 months have had loud gurgling in stomach & chronic diarrihia. No pain whatsoever. I can eat whatever I want - no nauseau - but was often afraid to becuz I knew it would curtail any plans I had for the day.  For a while, I was mostly housebound becuz of the runs. I have lived w/lupus for years w/out incident, so went to primary care m.d. first, who said stomach symptoms were possibly food poisioning or bacteria or perisite. I will go to rheumatologist in 2 weeks to see if there's lupus involvement. I am not having the runs as much now, & am becoming involved in life again, but feel this is stress-related, so am changing my lifestyle - more rest, less work. Any words of wisdom for me?

Thanks,
nopain

Stress can indeed be a cause of diarrhea and it also can increase acid production in your stomach.  It sounds like you have found something that is helping the situation with your more rest, less work treatment.  With chronic diarrhea, you of course want to make sure your electrolytes are not being depleted (blood tests can measure these levels).  Also, eating solid foods is important because an all liquid diet continually can contribute to non-formed stools.  You might try taking Metamucil daily for the diarrhea in addition to the stress reduction treatment, as it can help with bulk forming.
