Diagnosed with a kidney stone...wondering when I will pass it

I had kidney stones one other time 4 years ago during a rough pregnancy. They kept me in the hospital for a week, said I passed them (luckily didn't feel a thing) and that was that. Three nights ago, I had to go to the ER after a day of feeling the urge to use the bathroom and then at night having a severe onset of pain on my right side/flank. I was given a shot of a non-narcotic (I think Toradol or something) as I had to drive myself to the ER with my hubby being out of town and prescribed Ibuprofen. They did a CT and said I have a 4 mm kidney stone and I have not felt the pain as bad since. I still have back pain and this morning felt the urgency I did the other day but that has subsided. Will I know when I pass this stone, and what is the "usual" time it takes from the pain onset? I am worried because I am supposed to take my nephews to a wrestling event 4 hours away tomorrow and we have to drive there and back as well as be there for hours. I do not want the pain to flare up again. Though this is my second go around, I am very confused and wondering what I can do, if anything, without going to a Urologist as I am uninsured.

Thank you for your response. I am apprehensive about going because I don't want anything to go wrong and I don't know what to expect during two long drives and a long sporting event. I guess I will wait and see how I feel tomorro!

Bring pain meds with if you can!  I had a large stone that did not pass on it's own but was told maybe a week when I initially went to the ER...  I'm not sure there is a way of knowing when a stone will pass...
