Stones?

For about a year now I have had a constant pain in my back that goes from my back to my side, then back up to my back again. At first it was only in my side so I thought I had appendicitis. Went to the ER and they said it is possibly stones. They gave me some ibuprofin 800 and told me to drink plenty of water. I have been doing this, but a year later the pain is still there. Sometimes it becomes unbearable and makes me feel sick to my stomach, but I down a gallon or so of water and it goes away only to return later. The pain is getting worst. I was told to mix some lemon juice with some water and to drink that every hour for twelve hours. I did this and still no results. From what I have read, stones should pass in 24-48 hours, and I definitely have stones, the x-rays the ER gave me said so. But why do I still have them? My main concern is kidney failure. If gone untreated over a time period such as mine, can stones lead to kidney failure? Any knowledge of this subject would be much appreciated.

Thank you very much Doctor, and you as well ChitChatNine, I would give almost anything to be done with this, I have scheduled an appointment two weeks from today and hopefully I will be rid of this, thank you for your responses

I had a 4.0 mm (small one) that stayed lodged in my kidney for 2 yrs playing havoc with pain and then one day it decided to let loose and I passed it and the pain of passing it was less than what I went through on/off for 2yrs.  Then I had a 1.0mm one that got stuck very low and caused renal colic for over a week and the CT Scan showed it was very low and finally it passed, too.  But yours may be stuck as the Dr above mentioned so I'd go for re eval.  I went ev. 6mos for new tests.  And, stones can form in a matter of days.

Hi,

A small kidney  stone may pass all the way out of the body without causing too much pain while a  larger stone may get stuck in a ureter, the bladder, or the urethra. This can block the  flow of urine and cause great pain and may cause damage to the kidneys. The kidneys will not function well and may not remove the wastes of the body, leading to build up in the blood and further damage. Have this evaluated further by your urologist for proper management.Additional tests such as urinalysis, ultrasound and blood tests are done to monitor if there is recurrence of stone or not.
