Understanding labs and need for bone marrow test please explain

Trying to see why Dr wants a bone marrow test and has mentioned cancer. Don't understand these lab results. Thank you!

I see from your other post that you have Lupus. Knowing that changes everything. Your doctor probably wants the BM biopsy to determine if your lymphopenia (low lymphocytes) is due to your Lupus affecting your marrow and thereby reducing your *production* of lymphocytes. Tha reduced productoon can also account for your low monocytes.

But if your BMB is okay, then he'll next look to see if your immune system is *destroying* your lymphocytes.  

So yes, you should want the BMB. Good luck.

Hi, I don't see reason to suspect cancer from this test alone. It looks instead like an infection.


This shows that your neutrophils are high. They are the immune system cells that usually fight bacteria.

This shows that your lymphocytes are more than a little low. They can go low because of a bacterial infection.

Monocytes are a litte low. Other counts that are out of range are only slightly so and probably don't matter.

Blood cells are made in the marrow. When a cancer gets into the marrow, the cancer cells crowd out the good cells that produce blood cells. But that doesn't seem to be the cause here. I'd ask the doc why they are rushing to do the BMB.
