Swollen Lymph node in neck (mystery)

Hi ~ Im 26 years old and I have a swollen something in the right side of my throat.  You can only see it when I look up, its been like that since I got sick with the flu or something about 4 years ago.  Just recently my boyfriend was sick and I didnt really get sick just a little sore throat and now the other side of my throat feel like its getting bigger but its not yet noticable when I look up.  Does anyone have any ideas on what could be going on... I made an appointment to see my doctor next week and Ive been looking online and scaring the **** out of myself with everything online.

Hi just to let you know I went to my doctors appointment and he said the swollen lymph node in my neck was nothing to worry about.  He said sometimes that just happens.  We did blood work to test for infections, total cell count, etc... because I told  him about my IBS too.  He also took exrays of my stomach because he seemed more concerned with the IBS than anything else.  All my bloodwork and x-rays came back normal.  So I feel better. =)

There are a number of possibilities. One is that you may be feeling normal anatomy, such as cartilage over your neck. Another possibility is infection, could be viral, bacterial, or mycobacterial – since you feel well in general, if it turns out to be this, chances for cure are excellent. A third possibility is malignancy could be thyroid, lymphoma, or cancer from the mouth/throat. Since it seems pretty small – even if it turns out to be malignant chances for cure are still excellent. Keep your appointment with your doctor and an open mind.
