I feel your pain. I have been through the same run around with doctors. I had to be my own advocate and insist that more tests be run even if they thought nothing was wrong. A year ago, after having a lymph node removed. The results showed lymph proliferation and lymph dysplasia. The doctor told me that I was worrying too much about cancer and to live my life. This was extremely unsettling. After nine months of pushing the doctors to keep examining me and run basic blood work because I don't have any insurance. They are now telling me that I am in stage four lymphoma and I probably still have thyroid cancer.
I'm not sharing this to scare you but to empower you. Be your own advocate and push for what you believe in. You are the one paying for a service. It is ok to demand what you are paying for. You have the right to ask to be referred to someone else or get a second opinion if you are unsatisfied with the care you are getting.
Good luck! Please keep us posted with your progress! :)
thanks for your thoughts.since i had the thyroidectome i havnt seen a doctor.
ive had lumps removed from groin, cervix, thyroid are the main ones.the back of my neck feels stif wanting to hang head forward..i had a doctor that desided i was just paranoid about cancer..for all medical to see i guess, now im finding it hard to get a doctor and im at the stage now that i think trusting one mite be hard..i really just want to know what it is so i can maybe do something so i dont have to keep haveing opps..the only comunication with anyone after any opp was just to have stiches removed..so im really none the wiser.lol.
thanx.
Hi, a possibility goes like this: they grab a few cells by needle. They find individual cells that look odd, as if they are cancer. But when they next take out a whole section of tissue, the structure of the entire tissue doesn't look like cancer.
Here's a rough analogy off the top of my head: let's say you cut the top off an orange and look at it. You can see that it's divided into sections. There are also pulpy parts and a central core. There are also some seeds. It has a structure to it. A normal lymph node has a certain structure, too.
Next do the same with a potato. It all is the same on the inside, every cell is like any other cell. It's "homogenous".
In a cancerous lymph node, eventually all the cells that are seen are the same because all of the normal cells have been replaced by identical cancer cells. The normal structure that you'd expect in a normal lymph node is gone.
Si you can tell more when you have a large section of tissue then when you just have a few cells from a needle aspiration.
If yours is "pre-cancerous", then maybe it's not bad to have it taken out anyway. In any event, *if* the unusual tissue is causing problems, it's likely not going to get better on its own anyway without the surgery.
Hello and welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear you are going through SO much. I can share with you that I have both thyroid cancer and non-hodgkins lymphoma. Yes, I have heard of this. I've been going through similar circumstances since 2003.
A couple of questions for you. What kind of doctor are you seeing? If your problems are initiating in your thyroid. It would be helpful to see an endocrinologist. They are better equipped to deal with those type of issues. With that being said. There are also less invasive tests that you could have done. Instead of more surgeries. You could have a PET scan done. OR more commonly for thyroid issues...a thyroid uptake with is done with radioactive I131. What did your pathology report actually say?
I have had 5 surgeries on my neck and all they do is cause me more pain because of the scar tissue. We also have forums here that are directly related to thyroid problems.
I hope this helps and that you are able to find some answers. Please keep us posted. :)
