Portal Fibrosis in infant

We are potentially adopting an infant and we are not familiar with portal fibrosis but looking into a little. The child is 8 months old. Here is what I know: liver biopsy done 11/25 and surgery was not advised at that time. SGPT levels at 492 January 2017. SGPT levels at 172 March 2017 so they went down. That's good, right? They are giving the child syp. udcament 125/5-1.5ml 2 times a day.
What could cause these elevated levels in an infant? We know nothing about her mother. Thank you!
