CT scan found 8mm non-calcified nodule

I have had 2 spontanious phemothorax and recieved surgery the 2nd time around.  This was about 3 years ago.  I had a CT scan a few weeks ago for something else and they found a 8mm nodule.  Could that be scar tissue?  Is there any connection with spontanious phemothorax's and lung cancer?

Thanks for any input!

Hi,

The prior history of pneumothorax itself does not indicate an increased risk for lung cancer. There are 2 kinds however, a primary spontaneous pneumothorax and a secondary. The primary means the pneumothorax occurred in the absence of any known lung disease. The secondary implicates an underlying lung disease. The underlying disease, if it is smoking-related may be associated with an increased risk for lung cancer.
If the nodule is near the edges or outer lining of the lung (the pleura), then the chances that this could be scar would be higher, since this would be the surfaces that were affected during the pneumothorax.
