Help needed is this lung cancer or another lung problem advice appriciated

Hi all for well over a year now i have had sternum pain in the centre of my chest area.... i also have had upper back pain and left shoulder pain.... I do not smoke and have never smoked nor does my partner, or immediate family.  Im 27 year old normally healthy woman, not over weight etc.... for the past 6 weeks ive had a continuous cough, which sometimes feels phlemy, i have had 2 lots of antibiotic which havent worked, i was tried on a blue inhaler which sadly isnt providing any relief.  I cant hardly sleep at night i cannot lay flat i have to have lots of pillows proping me up or sleep downstairs leaning up sofa arm....  I go into coughing fits which i cant control then feel as if i cannot breath, i feel contionously short of breath and tight in the chest area.  Sometimes it makes me gagg and eyes water if i cough too much, I have tried a variety of over the counter meds and sweets to help but they havent and im still trying the inhaler due to the holidays and gp being closed.

Feels like im always struggling for breath and the sharp sudden pains i get in the sternum make it feel worse.
I have no other symptoms of ie a cold etc....

Can someone tell me what to do, as ive been dealing with this for over a year and its slowly getting worse.

Any advice would be great thanks

Hi Maduision's mum I am not sure that I can be of any help to you but as the old saying goes it helps to know someone else suffers likewise.  I am a lot older than you, but back when I was your age I was sick with severe pain in my lungs and trouble breathing etc.  I ended up being diagnosed after 6 yrs. of SEVERE pain, agonizing along with x-rays cat scans, etc., coupled with the fact that I was being seen by many of the country's best doctors.  Before, I go into what I had, let me ask you a few questions.  Do you notice if the pain and problems began right before your monthly period?  Do you feel any relief at all after getting your period?  let me know if your symptons ease up after you get your monthly period?  Thanks so much.  DeeinNJ121759

It is really hard to determine without an x-ray or scan of your lungs- ask your doctor to get you a referral for an Xray, etc. I am really concerned that you keep going to the doctor and they did not suggest Xray or CT scan- insist that they give you one!!
If you have been to him/her several times and not getting better, any doctor with common sense would have ordered one.
Also have you had your blood drawn- white blood cells checked out?
