Polyps Found on chest x-ray

My father was in a car accident a couple of days ago and had a bad chest bruise from his seatbelt. He was given a chest x-ray and they found polyps on his lungs. He is going to be tested, but in the meantime I would like to know how likely it is that he has cancer. He is a non-smoker (has never smoked) and he is 57 years old. He lives with one smoker that smokes outside the home.

It is not likely I think but a CT Scan and a PET Scan will give you about 85% confidence.
...I smoked 25 years and they found nodules on my lungs but subsequent tests showed no malignancy. However if nothing happens before that I will probably die of lung cancer.
