No Kat. You have no reason to be sorry. None what so ever. the way ibsee drinking while breast feeding is this,  if you know you will be drinking pump enough to get the babes by until its clear from your body. There is nothing wrong with having a drink or two after birth. If anything its good. Unwind and enjoy being human. I did with my first born but won't with them twins because I'm over the drinking stage of my life do to personal things. Heck I'll make you a few drinks if you walked in while I bar tended lol. But please don't be sorry for bringing up the smoking. It was a struggle of mine AMD I've heard everyone's opinion on it. Negative or not. Still not something I'm proud of AMD if I could change time I would. But can't so forward is where I'm headed lol.

Sorry emma for bringing up the smoker thing was just making a point in which some moms do have healthy babies even smoking during their pregnancies and I think it was me just feeling paranoid and telling myself out loud that it was ok to have a glass of wine when the baby is just 2 weeks old..idk im still in party mode I guess haven't really gotten it out of my system..I never really had much of a social life I was always working even as a gogo dancer I would dance then go home...im prob going to have a night with the hubby on sat but 2 drink min !!

I'm an ex-smoker so I understand. Smoking is an awful addiction. Its been said that quitting smoking is harder than quitting heroin. While smoking during pregnancy isn't good its definitely the lesser evil. It doesn't have nearly the negative effects as alcohol.

the drinking I could understand because I didn't do it while pregnant and never really have been a drinker. Just seen what it did to my mom and others I served it to as a bar tender. Never have I served a pregnant woman ( well a visably pregnant woman I guess ).. my Dr said wine in moderation is safe but there is no safe amount of anything while pregnant.
Now for the smoking. I sad to say am a smoker. I was fortunate in being able to quite by 14 weeks and even with stress I had one here and there thru out. Not proud of it. And I thank god everyday I didn't hurt my babes.  ( please don't bash me girls )
But now that they are here,  I made a promise I will never smoke again. So far so good. :-)

I waited about 6 weeks. I had a glass of wine after I nursed my baby and she fell asleep. In the hospital the lactation consultant told me I didn't need to pump and dump depending on how long I waited before nursing again. She told me once I metabolized the alcohol then it would be out of my milk as well.

I have never had anyone in the medical profession say it is okay to drink any amount of alcohol during pregnancy. I have cared for children with fetal alcohol syndrome and for me personally its not a risk I'm willing to take. Even if they don't have noticeable FAS there could still be minor effects that aren't noticeable like a lower IQ that may of been higher had mom not had that glass of wine. In the county I live if you test positive for any drug or alcohol while pregnant the doctor is required to report you to the county.

During pregnancy I know someone who's doctor brought her a glass of wine with dinner while she was in the hospital. He was going to induce the next morning. It relaxed her enough to cause her to go into labor naturally. I think while pregnant, we were told in our birth class that a glass of wine will be in the babies system for 4 hours. I can see that while in moderation, it could be ok and it could not be ok. Maybe it comes down to how you perceive it.

I read up on it on The LLL and the Mayo Clinic websites and they say it takes about 2 hours to metabolize one beer and once its metabolized out of your system its no longer in your milk, something I never knew. I waited a little longer since it was tequila. I can't believe either how many women will have the occasional drink while pregnant and then argue that its good for them. I have always been told no amount is safe and it not worth the risk to me.

My hubby and I went out to dinner when Gen was 3 weeks old and I had two margaritas. I nursed her right before we left and then didn't nurse her again until 6-7 hours after I had them. She had two bottles of breast milk in that time and I pumped and dumped once during because I got so full and uncomfortable.

I'm actually lookinf forward to a cocktail. I've never been a big drinker so just one would work. I say choose what the right answer for you. If you are not putting your child in danger, then go for it.
