The increase in appetite is normal. When on a stimulant medication it decreases your appetite so when getting off it  he's appetite would come back.

Yeah, autism is a really tricky one, it can be really hard to diagnose as there's so many levels of it. When I worked at a special education unit, most severely autistic kids were diagnosed at about 2-3 years old. But most of us are autistic too, we just don't know it!! You know your son the best Emma, and from what I've heard, he's high functioning, so unless you're really concerned about some behavioural traits he's showing, I wouldn't be too worried.

Well its been a few days since he's been on this new medication.. it seems to be working. Thank goodness! He's doing his homework and listening better. Hey sitting still instead of being a little super ball lol.
Only thing that worries me is that it makes him a little sleepy in the after noon. Something I need to bring up at his appointment next week. Im sure its a normal side affect. Along with his appetite increasing.
I honestly don't think he has autism either. I've been doing my research on it and so far all the signs of it he doesn't have.

I've heard good things about stratera. I believe it to be the only non stimulant ADHD med. Some kids don't do well with the stimulant type meds. With Josh I feel we got lucky because it only took trying 3 meds to find what works for him. He's now been on Concerta for the last 4 years and doing great.

Hopefully this new medication works. I know it can take some time to find the right one. He's lucky to have you. And if it turns out he is on the autism spectrum then hopefully you can get answers quickly so you can start getting him the proper resources for that.
