Where'd You Get Your Pet(s)' Name(s)?

Okay I thought this was an awesome topic!!! I LOVE names. I always take days to name new pets because I want something perfect. Recently a stray kitty ended up on our doorstep and we took him in. Unlike previous pets I immediately knew what I wanted to call him!

Carson Beckett is my favorite Stargate Atlantis character. So... I dubbed our gorgeous Siamese--- Beckett! It's the perfect name for him. Ice blue eyes like the actor's eyes. Very sweet and humble and funny like the character on the show.

So... where'd YOUR pet's name come from?! Do they live up to their name?

Hi guys!

We have a few cats (!) and have fostered a number of cats and kittens over the years while they were waiting for permanent adoption or placement in a colony (which are run by the rescue team we work with, so we have had to come up with a lot of names!

Sometimes they name themselves - Mouse is so-names because as a kitten he was a tiny little grey thing and one day he snagged a piece of cheese from a bowl on the counter and sat and ate it in both paws, sitting up and nibbling like a little mouse!  And Bumpers likes to stand up and bump his head into the palm of your hand!

Sometimes it's a matter of inspiration, like Nighteyes, our all black cat who has very vivid eyes or Ariel who seemed sort of like the biblical angel in many ways - not that I'm an expert!  Also it's such a pretty name!!

Sometimes from books, like Roofshadow, which is a name from a book by Tad Williams called Tailchaser's Song which I recommend to all cat lovers out there.  Also she was a soft dark grey color, kind of like a shadow.

For my 11th birthday, my mom took me to get a Cockatiel.
I wanted a female, and I loved the Disney movie Alladin
But sadly =( we ended up getting a male bird- who btw has beautiful markings, as the males are more colorful than the females..
So, I decided to name my bird after Jasmine but to make it a little more masculine I named him ------> JazzMAN- lol and he is quite a loud musical bird when he wants to be. He whistles "Pretty bird" and blows kisses, sometimes he climbs to the top of his cage, goes to the end of the cage and hangs upside down while spreading his wings like an eagle while making a long laughing chirp....its hysterical to see.

Well i have a beagle.  Her real name is Pebbles.....no clue why she was named that but has been Pooh or "the beagle" for about 10 yrs.  Tomorrow is her birthday.  I made cupcakes for her.  She has no friends due to her attitude!!!!!

Snickers aka "crackhead" came with his name.  I inherited this large tom cat after my dad passed away.  First time cat owner.  He owns me.  Has been a great addition to my family.  The beagle actually tolerates him.  Oh he is 7.

My cat's name is Abby. Although he is, well....a male cat, I wanted to name him after a hero kitty who, although blinded from both her eyes, saved her owners from a burglar who broke into their homes. The cat scratched the guy's eyes so badly, kitty had the guys blood in her claws, and also pieces of skin. It was midnight and the couple was sleeping. The cat heard noise downstairs and ran down the stairs, hid behind the Xmas tree, and when the guy got close enough, she attacked him. His scream was heard by the owners and the man got caught. I thought that it was a beautiful story on Animal Miracles - on Animal Planet- and I decided to name my cat Abby. Funny, he always follows me around, sits right next to me, wakes me up in the morning when my alarm goes off and I don't ear it, and always has the attitude of a guard dog.  Still some people think he is a female when I take him out, and that's without telling them the cat's name. :)

My late doggy Gizmo was named after the cute little gremlin in The Gremlins.
I named my horse Destiny because my favorite group at the time was Destiny's Child, yes I am a dork ( I was 12)
I have had WAY too many pets to name them all but my current pet is a
Siamese/ oci cat mix and his name is Marley, after Bob Marley of course.

Blackie got her name because I picked her up as an injured stray, and at the time my mom told me we weren't going to keep her so don't get attached. We just called her Blackie because, well, she's black. Obviously we kept her and the name stuck.

I picked the name Bryce for my golden/border collie mix because I wanted something simple but unique. When I got him from the rescue, his name was Reggie, which does not suit him at all, and I don't think it rolls of the tongue as easily as Bryce. I wanted a name that sounded gentler for him that matched his soft expressions but also matched his peppy, mischievous personality. So Bryce he is, and he learned his name in just a day.

My family's older dogs that live with my mom are Nic and Dove. They're border collies and litter mates. Nic is my dog and Dove is my mom's. I gave Nic his name after the actor Nicolas Cage (I know, lame right? Lol, but at the time I got him I was 13 years old and crazy about Nicolas Cage).
Dove got her name after the brand of chocolate/soap, because the dove symbol for that brand is somewhat wavey-looking and white. Well, Dove has a white blaze on her head that's wavey and shaped like that dove.
My mom's Great Pyranese sheep guard dog is named Ivy. Not really sure how we concluded with that name for her.
My mom and younger sister also just adopted a westie puppy recently, and her name is Willow. She came with that name, although she's such a little snot and trouble-maker that I think a plant name that would better suit her would be Stinkweed or Thornbush or something like that. ;-)

My golden retriever is named Sarah - that is my favourite girl's name and couldn't have any more kids so she got it

One of our cats is called BESC (pronounced Bessy) and stands for Big Eared Stinky Cheese - found her as a starving kitten by our pond.  She has one eye bigger than the other.

Trixie is our other cat - Trixie was a nickname my husband used to call me

Waldo - named by his previous owners. They named him after the popular character you have to hunt down and find in the book series. I'm guessing that the previous owners asked that question quite a bit. I know I've caught myself asking, "Where's Waldo?" I can say he lives up to it. You have to be carefulk where you sit down on the bed if he decides to burrow under the covers.

Sahib: means master in another language. My grandma felt that named fit. She had im named “Sere” for Serendipity, but it didn't sound right.  He does seem to have a macho attitude.  He will jump right on the table in plain view. (and then wonder why he is shoved off or scolded so quickly)  He also tends to lay on the floor like he owns it. If you try to move or nudge him, he may bite your foot.

Otherwise he can be very cuddly. Just watch your toes. He may bite them randomly.
