Hi just an update, just saw my gynae , he thinks my original FSH levels was an error, as I am definitely still peri menopausal. another US scan shows I have enlarged palpable uterus with adenomyosis, this is probably causing all my gynae problems.. I will start a 4 month treatment of a progesterone pill, to try and eleviate my symptoms if this doesn't help, hystercetomy might be the anwser. To be honest at this moment I would be happy to get rid of everything. Does anyone else have this I am interested to learn more about Adenomyosis. Thanks.
My story..I am 42 & have had irregular cycles for the last 6 yrs. First off I had a thyroidectomy 19yrs ago. On medication, however, for the last 6 yrs due to them unable to figure out the correct dosage hypo/hyper year round I get irregular cycles, sometimes twice a month.
6 months ago I had an abnormal pap test (first ever). Coloscopy normal, but did test positve for high risk hpv. I just had another pap done 3 weeks ago, still abnormal. She did an FSH test and it was 58.4. I only have one ovary due to the other one being removed 4yrs ago due to complex cyst & a pelvic tumor. For the last 3 cycles I had one then not another for 35 days then again at 16 days.
I know a lot has to do with thyroid medication not being controlled. Well this last visit I told my gyno I was so frustrated with my cycles & the older I get the more painful they become. I don't eat for 3 days when they start because my entire stomach just feels like crap, bloaty, gassy..no apetite. Low back pain & painl thigh pains...The gyno did give me Pontsel for the cycles to try & help with the symptoms, however, no change..I take midol, advil & pontsel non stop through out the day to survive work.
I guess it would not be bad if I knew when I was going to get them, but I am alwalys caught off guard by them. I am literally on the couch once I get home from work. I get up in time to shower & in bed.
I did get a call from my gyno this evening because I wrote her a letter & faxed it to her explaining in a nutshell my cycels will never be normal due to thyroid medication I was tired of dealing with the issue. She has scheduled me for a surgical consultation on Oct 23 so we can go over everything. She says my history of irregular cycles(sometimes twice a month) abnormal pap smears & history of ovarian cysts warrant a discussion about a hysterectomy.
Right now my thyroid is being suppressed, but I know my Endo will change my dosage again in Nov. which will cause me to go hypo & the cycles wil go haywire with the dosage change.
I am used to night sweats, I have had them for the last 15yrs, I just always assumed they were normal for women, but out of 7 sisters I am the only who has them. I now assume they are due to thyroid medication or really not sure why I get night sweats, but freeze during the day.
I hear good & bad things about having a hysterectomy & I don't know if my thyroid issue will add more of the bad things.
Any opinions? We have a 19yr old so NO kids in the future. My husband had a hysterectomy 10yrs ago...We were happy with one...
Just don't want trade some symptoms for worse ones.
I hope you have better luck with the gyno doctor than I did. I thought I was going to a female specialist, and it was no more help than my primary care doctor, probably even worse. Please let me know what the doctor says regarding the FSH fluctuations, like yourself I can;t get answers anywhere. I wish you the best with your appointment and your symptoms.
Hi
thanks for your reply, everywhere I turn the advice is 'its normal' and everyone is different with there menopausal symptoms...I have now taken a appointment with a gyne doctor for the end of October maybe he can explain the FSH fluctuations. I hope everything is OK with you. Regards
Hello, I am not a doctor, another woman with a similar story. I had an FSH of 27 in July, was told that was post meno range, just barely though. Lots of symptoms that are interferring with quality of life. The symptoms continue, but had FSH re-checked in September, it was normal, level of 4.5. I am 46 years old. I feel your frustration as I was hoping the test would let me know where I am at so I can try to find a light at the end , so to speak. I do not know about the fibroids, but, like you I can't find anyone to explain why the drastic fluctuations with FSH results with severe menopause symptoms.
