Too Young?

Hello.  I am a 23-year-old female, and I'm wondering if I'm completely too young for perimenopause!  For the past several months, I've been having hot flashes and night sweats, my hair is getting frizzy and thin, my skin is getting dry, and my periods have become irregular, not to mention somewhat heavy and prolonged.  I recently had some bloodwork, and I was told that some of my hormones were out of whack, but I was not told which ones.  Could it really be perimenopause this early?

You may consider asking your doctor which hormones are out of whack, why that is and to explain to you what to do about it.  Also ask your doctor to check your thyroid levels if he/she has not already.

Sounds like you should get back to the doc for a thorough exam, and find out which hormones are off, and what the possible causes could be. Perimenopause can start at any age, but when you're that young, there's usually something else going on, so you really should get checked out. Don't be shy with the doctor, it's your body. Make sure your questions get answered.
