poorly visualized endometrium - what does that mean?

Hi, I am a 53 yr old post menopausal woman with post menopausal bleeding (PMB). My ultrasound indicates that my endometrial stripe is poorly visualized but measures approximately 3 mm. The poor visualization was noted in both the transabdominal and endovaginal views. Everything else is normal. Other tests: Pap shows Atrophic changes. FSH is in the menopausal range. Mamo is clear. PMB is two typed - one is typical post sex spotting due to atrophy. The other was a 7 day light bleed 13 months after my last period. I am scheduled for hysteroscopy and D&C in two weeks.

Other than malfunction of machine or human error, what causes the endometrium to be poorly visualized on the ultrasound?

Thanks,
Sandy

I'm not sure why it would be "poorly visualized" except maybe because it's so thin (good because they like it under 4 or 5mm after menopause).

Post-menopausal bleeding is actually fairly common especially in the early post-meno years. Thankfully, in most cases it's nothing more than sporadic ovarian activity since the ovaries never shut down... they continue producing hormones our whole lives which are critical to good health. With your lining being so thin and you only being 1 month into menopause (13 months after last period) I'm surprised they want to do a D&C.
