I have not had any bleeding since 2005, no spotting nothing back then I did have a biopsy and the thickness of uterus was the same and the gyn suggested hysterectomy , august 24 3005 i was suppose to have sugery but it was canceled as my stepdad passed on the 21st
the gyn then had me get ultrasound every 6 months for awhile and then he told me I did not need it because the uterus went back to normal
the reason for this ultrasound is I was losing to much weight to fast and was being checked for cancer , I see the gyn on january 12th to discuss this , my primary care doctor suggests I see the gyn
And my primary already scared me , and i am glad i see gyn soon cause i do suffer bad with anxiety when it comes to my health issues
thank you for posting
I'm not quite sure what the ovary measurements mean but, your uterine size appears to be within normal realms. I've also had a Transvaginal ultrasound done and they couldn't find one of my ovaries either (I am 53 years old and considered perimenopausal at this point).
You haven't mentioned the reason for your ultrasound. Were you having bleeding postmenopausally? For me, it was the fact that I've had constant on and off spotting for nearly 9 months now but, no real period since December 2008. I've also had an endometrial biopsy done and my uterine stripe came back at 16 mms.
Your report seems to be saying that your uterine stripe is at 13 mms. Post menopausal thickness should be less than 5 mms. That likely means that they will do an endometrial biopsy just to be on the safe side as a routine testing. It's quite normal for them to do an endometrial biopsy when the thickness of the uterine lining is thicker than 4 or 5 mms post menopausal...especially, some 3 or 4 years (subtracting one year from 2005 to be considered "postmenopausal") after menopause has set in and especially, if there is any postmenopausal bleeding.
The most likely cause of this seeming thickness is likely due to either fibroids or polyps which are both benign growths within the uterus. They may also want to do either a more detailed ultrasound called a Sonohysterogram (which I've had done and is not at all anything to be worried about) where they infuse a couple of ml's of saline solution into the uterus and use the same wand tranducer as a regular transvaginal ultrasound. The reason for this is because the uterus actually isn't open like diagrams show us. It is actually collapsed and closed. That means that anything like fibroids or especially polyps will lay pressed flat and imitate uterine lining, causing it appear to be thickened when in fact, it's the thickness of the fibroid or polyp causing the appearance of a thickened lining. The other thing that they may want to suggest is an hysteroscope and biopsy at the same time. This is a thin instrument that is passed into the uterus to look at the uterine lining and if there is any growths causing problems (such as polyps), they can remove them at that time and also do a biopsy while they are at it. Most of this type of thing is done as an outpatient procedure under either sedation or general anesthetic. All will depend upon why you were sent for the ultrasound in the first place which I take is because of possible spotting or bleeding postmenopausally.
In any case, I'm sure that your doctor will explain this more fully and what he/she feels is there or not there and what steps or procedures to do next. Whatever it is, it does not seem to be much to be concerned about. I know easier said than done as I am going through the rounds of testings and awaiting results and explanations with a lot of anxiety as well :)
Wishing you all the best!
