Yes they can be anywhere and they are benign.(Thank God) They are all not cosmetic,I have one that has grown on the inside of my spine it is a rare one. Most children are born with them on the outside of there spines and they are removed when they are born, mine was internal and was not found until I was  40 and had way to many problems they tried to remove it and I have been left disabled, it was unable to be remove because it grown around all the nerves the control the bottom have of my of my body. Mine was call a Conus Lipoma it is incased in my equine nerves or horses tail at the bottom of my spine the lipoma is 4 inches long it has been growing there my whole life, did not show any signs until now.

As I grew up I began to notice weird bumps here and there.  Went to a doctor.  They are just fatty benign tumors (thank God!).  Cosmetic surgery and something to do with ultrasound (yeah I don't get it either) can help get rid of them when you feel they are really bad.  They can be just about anywhere I believe.

A lipoma is just a fatty tumor. While "tumor" sounds scary, a lipoma is totally benign. If it bothers you, you can have it removed, but otherwise don't worry about it.
