Slight bump in pubic hair region - what is it?
Hi there, i'm new to this site/forum and i'm starting to worry about a problem i've come across. I've had a slight lump/bump in the area of my pubic hair, about 1cm away from the base of my penis and it is like the size of a pea cut in half. it seems to be growing underneath the skin and it does feel slightly sore when i touch it. if i press down harder on it it hurts more and does slightly go red. it doesn't look like there's any puss or anything like it inside, it is quite firm and looks like an mosquito bite, just hard instead of soft.
i read around and some people have a similar problem and they have been said to have an inflammed follicle in the pubic region, the only problem here is that i don't shave my pubic hair, i only trim it.
any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated as i'm starting to worry about it! thanks.

Okay - The fact is that genital herpes creates a completely different kind of sore -- a blister-type sore that eventually becomes crusty -- not just a bump or lump under the skin.
---- I am assuming that you are talking about cysts here....
If it is a bump or lump thats under the skin, it is more than likely just a cyst. People are known to have cystic acne that may require harsh treatment like accutane. Or they have just plain under-the-skin bumps and lumps that are found to be sebaceous cysts which are sometimes called epidermal cysts... these usually clear up on their own but, sometimes they don't and either injection or surgery is required. In either form, this can grow and expand into something quite harmless(like the spread of cystic acne), yet PAINFUL and more importantly, hurtful to your self-concious! Harmless as in - you CANNOT spread it to others and its not something that is going to make you sick yet ---- it'll be painful just because that is the nature of ANY cyst.

Go to your healthcare provider or dermatologist and ask about it as soon as possible!
If it is more blister-like and crusty, chances are: its genital herpes... seek IMMEDIATE attention for this!
If it is UNDER the skin, yet still inflammed, its JUST A CYST.

If it happens to be just a cyst, your doctor can get rid of it by simply injecting a steroid into it. Rarely, the doctor may perform a small surgery to remove the sac that is under the skin... but this may only be necessary if your cyst grows to a painful size of something that may be 1 inch underneath the skin. Without any attention, I am sorry to say this but --- It will more often than not leave a scar. When I say surgery, don't freak out. If its just one cyst - it'll be like something the equivalent to a wart-removal.

I had what COULD be classified as 'Pilodinal Cysts' --- and I am a girl! Sorry guys, its more common for you. :(
But this is a genetics thing for me. Its basically a CLUSTER of sacs (imagine hundreds grouped together under the skin) that fill and empty inside the body - causing infection. One cyst alone wouldn't have been a problem --- this is a cluster we are talking about here.
This was against my spine --- so I had to be knocked out completely and have the cluster scraped away from my back bone and removed entirely... I was out of the hospital within hours of the surgery and it just left a small 1 1/2 inch line for a scar - hardly noticable as a small pink line. Big deal, huh? The cluster was painful so, I am glad it is gone.
Also, cystic acne. Its not a problem anymore but it was for a few years. No matter what is done with this, there will always be a scar! >.< So I will be getting a few laser treatments done on my chin where it left deep and purple scars. I never squeezed because I knew it'd scar if I did, yet it still left scars.
That is because, with cysts.... the acne formed in the hair follicle - its UNDER the skin's surface. With normal acne, it would have been on the skins surface. When a cystic bump comes and goes REPEATEDLY in one spot like it does with cystic acne, it will leave a scar. Nothing to do with cleanliness or lack of... its genetic and it has to do with how your sebacious glands are made up. (I thank my father - lol).

Point is, it may be small now, but you want to do something about it before it grows into something larger, if you happen to be one of the lucky ones in this gene pool to have received such traits to make it spread. It could do just that. So if your lump doesn't go away and turns into two lumps or the same one grows, go see your doctor... Even if its just one, it can scar badly.

I have one too but i tried to pop it and it didn't pop it just turned all red it's about 2-3cm frOm the pubic area its not sore, irritating/ itchy or anything like that i have never had sex before either because I'm 14 so I don't think it can be a STD what is it and what should I do?

Something for everyone to check out with these symptoms is - "Hidradenitis Suppurativa", you can google it and find a lot of information. It is a slightly common condition/disease that is prevalent in women but also affects men. It is not a STD and is not due to poor Hygiene.
Information about Hidradenitis Suppurativa:
Hidradenitis is a chronic disease of the apocrine glands (a form of sweat gland found on certain parts of the body, i.e underarms, pubic, groin). For unknown reasons, people with hidradenitis develop plugging or clogging of their apocrine glands. It causes chronic scarring and pus formation of the underarms, groin/inner thigh, and pubic hair areas. In women it can also occur under the breasts. It is similar to acne, which is also a disease of the sebaceous glands. Hidradenitis is more common in people who have had acne. It may be an unusual type of adult acne.
This condition is slightly more common in women and African-Americans, but also affects men. Hidradenitis usually starts as one or more red, tender, swellings in the groin, armpits, or pubic areas. Over a period of hours to days the lesions enlarge and often open to the skin surface draining clear to yellow fluid. The involved area then heals with scarring. The condition usually continues for years with periods of flare and remission.
Unfortunately, at this time, there is no cure for the condition, however, there are treaments that deal with the symptoms, i.e. pain, swelling, scarring. The best thing to due is see your doctor/general practitioner or a dermatologists. Most dermatologists that have experience with this condition can diagnose it just by looking at it.
While this may/may not be the condition you have, I would highly recommend consulting your doctor. The best thing you can do for any condition, regardless of how minor and/or harmless it may set seem, is to consult your doctor ASAP. In many cases, the earlier something is caught, the better the chance you have of treatment and fully recovering from it.

My dermatologists told me that these overactive sebaceous
cysts are quite common in men. They are actually called Fordyce
spots - you can find them on Google.
Most of them are on the scrotum, with some on the base and
lower shaft of the penis.
I had one a couple of years back on the front of my scrotum.
My dermatologist said he could use his laser to burn it off,
otherwise it could be left alone without any problems.
My GP then used a tweezers to remove it, hurt quite a bit with
some mild bleeding. However, there are now two more, with one
at the bottom of my scrotum and the other at the front lower shaft.
He showed it to me and it looked just like a small bit of yellow fat.
Try not to scratch them. They normally don't cause any problems.
The other many spots on most men's scrotums, which look like
small dark red/black spots or moles, are the more problematic ones.
I think they are blocked veins or small aneurysms, due to poor
circulation from sitting too much, and tend to bleed quite a lot
(happened to me once) when accidentally scratched, like during
a bath. For a moment when that happened, I thought I was going
to bleed to death ! Many of the males in the Steadyhealth forums
have had similar experiences.

So is there any STD that looks like a pimple or ingrown hair bump that only shows up in the pubic hair region? I've checked the internet for symptoms of herpes and genital warts and neither seem like they are what I have which is more like what everybody in this forum's talking about a ingrown hair in the pubic hair region?
i woke up this morning getting dressed for school and i felt a bump and i was like ok what is this i didnt mess with it or anything i just left it cause if i was to mess with it it could of got infected or something it just came out of no where over night i had big cramps on my thighs and it hurt so bad i wake up and run over the house does any body know what this is i never did anything but one time and that was two years ago i really need yall help

I read on another men's health site that these bumps are overactive sebaceous cysts because I had gotten one too about 2 weeks ago and it initially was very sore but the soreness went away on the base of my penis but the red/purple bump was still there. I am not and havent yet been sexually active so I ruled out STD's.

I have the same problem too, i scratched at it, and only a little blood came out, and it got slightly smaller. I have had about 3 in 3 months, one comes after another. Is this an STD, can anything be done? thanks
thanks for the replies, i've never heard of tend skin; not sure if it's available in australia. maybe there's a different brand of the same thing here.
it's been there for about 3 - 4 days now. maybe it is just a pimple? i'm thinking that because earlier today i pressed on it and a bit of white liquidy puss-like stuff came out.
sounds like an ingrown hair. there is a solution i buy called tend skin and it is for just that ingrown hairs.
How long has this bump been there? I am not necessarily saying that it is an ingrown hair, but I thought I would mention that you do not have to shave a region to develop ingrown hairs. Hairs will grow for awhile and then fall out on their own and grow back (that is why your pubic hair and body hair does not grow beyond a certain length). A new hair can become ingrown just like a shaved hair can, although it happens less frequently.
